noob question: engine rebuild

assuming the o-rings are the only problem area and compression is fine

my question is once i open the engine up would i need to replace any other parts (i.e. rotor seals/springs) or would they be re-usable? i don't plan on touching anything but the o-rings

You would be foolish to go thru all the that work and not replace more parts. I would always replace the oil control rings, dowel pin o-rings, tension bolt o-rings, front cover gasket, apex seals(unless you know for a fact yours have extremely low miles) apex seal springs and corner seal springs. That is the bare minimum your should consider replacing unless the engine was practically new before being rebuilt.(not likely)

cool thanks for the that list
i noticed you suggested apex seals and apex/corner springs

i plan on buying the engine o-ring set from: http://mazdatrix.com/getprice.asp?partnum=10-S60A-N3A1 could this be the bare minimum? or is it necessary to do the apex seals and apex/corner springs

It was recommended to me to figure new seal springs all around as a minimum, along with pretty much everything else djseven mentioned. If you still have three-piece OEM apex seals, you might want to consider replacing those.
Remember when your ordering, there's some other miscellaneous things, like new copper crush washers for the OMP lines, various other 'O' rings for longblock stuff, some exhaust gaskets etc. If you doing it yourself...as you tear down the motor keep a pen and paper handy and make notes.
