how do you know if your engines blown? what are the symptoms?

i tried starting my car up the other day, and i heard a loud ping .. like metal on metal .. engine started running and then i noticed smoke under the hood .. i quickly turned the car off .. once i opened the hood .. i noticed the belt that connects the alternator and the air pump had ripped .. i was thinking maybe it was just the belt that ripped and got caught up making all the smoke .. i replaced my belt .. and tried running the car .. wont start .. not enough power to crank it .. so i bought a new battery rated at 550 cca .. car wont turn .. is my engine dead? also near the ast and the coolant filler neck theres a white liquid .. i guess its the coolant that wanted to escape .. when i open the filler neck the coolants all white .. and there was some white matter in it .. kinda like egg whites that had been cooked

 

try turning the car over manually. ie a big socket and ratchet.
if it won't turn over then you really have problems.
if you can get it to turn over and start you should check for compression.
can i see a pic of the white stuff. does not sound good whatever it is.

 

k .. gonna try turning it over manually .. i will have pics of the white stuff in a day or so .. no digital camera

 

when i try to start it .. it doesnt even try to start anymore i just get a clicking noise .. sounds like the ignition to me .. but doesnt go any further after that point

 

Based on your last post comment, it may be that your starter has gone bad and it is not turning over the motor. Double check the wiring to the starter to make sure a wire has not worked loose. If all is in order, you may need to pull the starter and have it checked at a local parts outfit.

You mentioned smoke..... find out what fried and replace it

 

Typically engine pop after making a banzai highway run at wide open throttle on boost. Under these circumstances, I would still hold out hope your motor is fine.

well i have noticed that ive been getting alot of white smoke during startup and during wot .. this been happening for about a year now i couldnt afford a rebuild so i thought id just drive it till it died and buy a brand new engine
