Noob mechanical question. + emissions removal
so i bought a belt from Banzai racing (stock pulley w/ PS, no A/C)
and i was wondering before i start working on it..
what tools do i need to remove the A/C compressor and to remove the pulley belt? and replace it with the new one.
I have an impact wrench and air compressor, and all the sockets necessary. but do i need a special tool to hold the pulley system still when i hit it with the impact? i heard i can mess stuff up, if the pulley spins while unbolting.
and to piggyback on this thread,
(searched alot for this emissions removal stuff)
with stock main cat and airpump, which emissions solenoids and hoses can i remove? I have a PFC, and the elbow,TB, and UIM extension is off (revealing the rats nest). I also have a banzai racing block-off plate kit coming in.
i removed the aws pipe on the manifold, took out the double throttle butterflies, removed coolant lines from the TB, screwed the Fast Idle Cam screw all the way down to hold it half open. and have a complete silicon hose job done. oh and i want to keep SEQ. Turbos.
thanks for the info!

I am getting rid of my ac system right now also. I havent put it back on yet but it comes off very easy. I didnt have to use anything special to get either the belt or the compressor off. I bought my belt from banzai to when i get it on I let you know if I had any problems.

To answer your first question:
A/C compressor can be taken off with a set of ratchets and box wrenches. Just look at it, it's pretty obvious.
General steps:
1) Remove anything that's going to be in your way (eg battery, IC piping, etc)
2) Loosen (but don't remove) nut on tensioner pulley for A/C P/S belt using air tools
3) Loosen tensioner pulley adjustment to loosen up the belt enough to remove
4) Remove A/C compressor (I believe 4 bolts on the side, couple up front) and any associated piping including the canister up front, condenser, etc etc
5) Put on new belt
6) Use tension adjustment to proper belt tension
7) Re-tighten the tensioner pulley nut
8) Toss crap in dumpster and be prepped to drive a sauna on wheels
Question: Is the system evacuated?

i removed the a/c fluid tank and condenser about a week ago, nothing was spewing out of the hoses, and the a/c never worked in the first place so i suspected it all leaked out anyway.
thanks for the walk through. will start on this tomorrow... if that new belt ever comes in....
