Non-seq and Sequential SWITCHABLE

With all the recent talk about non-sequential, I thought I would provide a link to Gene Felber's web site. Go to "The Car", scroll down to "How-To's", then go to "Boost Limit and Non-Seq switches".

http://www.purplemantis.com/Mantissa...ssa%20main.htm

The switch allows in-car toggling of sequential and non-sequential mode.

Has anyone on this board done this as I'm interested in this modification too?

That looks pretty cool but with my beat sequential setup I wouldn't get any secondary boost. It's like a boost on and off switch in that case.

i tried it, it works, cool to switch from the street for a seq setup to a non-seq on the track.

i also wanted to do it because i wanted to try the non-seq before a set of non seq.

decided i would stay seq.

A question for anyone who have done this....How effective is this conversion since it just electronic wiring and nothing was done on the mechanical side?

The idea is great with switching between NS and S but I kinda doubt that it would be that simple...then again what do I know.

If anyone have done this and it's effectively switching between the 2 with no il-effect please post...I will definitely do this mod on mine if that's the case.

Thanks a lot.

Thumbs up

This is an awesome mod. Yes, I've done it myself (it's my page). It's great for the track- eliminates boost spikes!

If you have a modicum of soldering ability you should be able to do in in less than, say, an hour. If you want a nicer mounting like mine, then it will take a little longer to fabricate the braket.

Other benefits-

You can more easily pass emissions as the tester will be less likely to induce boost on the rollers.

Great for breaking in a new engine due to lower boost below 3500 RPMs

Great for warm-ups as you can much more easily avoid cold engine boosting.

Good for diagnosing upper RPM boost issues.

Good for tuning high-RPM/max boost (see below)

One other note- if you have a boost controller (elec or manual) this mods still works like a charm. In fact, I tune my Profec with the non SEQ switch. That way I don't have any surprises at the track.

Send me a note/PM if you have any Q's.

Regards,

Gene

No ill-effects other than somewhat laggy at low RPMs. It is laggier than the real non-seq mod. If you're concerned about low RPM boost, then you shoudn't be running the car in non-seq mode.

I've been using the switch for about 6 months now. No problems.

Anyone other than Rikki (think he is running it...) running the PMS with the Non-Seq mod?

Gene, thanks. 1 more ?, I have the PMS and was wondering which mode should I go in on the PMS, the single or twin turbo mode? Would it control my boost like it should.

Hmmm...let me think about this abit.

Thanks.

Gene,

You use IM, Yahoo or AOL? My AOL IM is "surpernsx".

DontBearikki,

Have you tried this switch method and if you have how is it compared to the one on your webpage?

Thanks.

Gene,

Per your instruction on the webpage, the 3 wires going "TO Solenoid", is it referring to the 4U wire on the back of the ECU or is it going to an actual Solenoid?

Thanks.

Huh? Are you saying you can switch between sequential and non-sequential, and back, as often as you like, and it is quicker to do that by wiring the TCA open than it is to flip a switch in your cockpit? It only takes about 1 second to flip that switch.

As far as the PMS setting, I don't know, sorry (I use sequentials). You'll just have to experiment!

Ryan,

Yeah, your way is probably easier if you like wrenching better than wiring.

Anyway, I just brought up this mod so people could try it and switch back and forth a bit until they decide. Then if they decide they like non-sequential they could gut the solenoids, lines, and some of the flappers.
