no thermoswitch in later models?
hi,
i purchased a 97 engine to rebuild and fit in my car and there is no thermoswitch underneath the thermosensor.the waterpump housing is undriled and there is no taped hole.
do anyone knows how do i overide this?
is there any trick in the wiring to make so run the car without thermoswitch or dril and tap the water pump housing for my old thermoswitch?
please note that i run pfc.
the VIN from the car witch this engine was pulled shows that the car was 97 model.
also the engine harness and ECU is diferent and it is the later versions.
thanks

I wish we had good wiring diagrams for series 7 cars. Mazda may have ditched the thermoswitch and increased the fan speed using an output from the 16 bit ECU.
Here is an example of where I have seen this. The '91-'93 Mitsubishi 3000GT/GTO had a fan thermoswitch. The '94+ had a more advanced ECU that ditched the thermoswitch and controlled the high speed fan setting directly from the ECU.

There is no switch in newer models, controlled by the ECU. I have a 02 and made this mistake and bought a Pettit switch that I wont be able to use. You can run the older housing to run the thermoswitch though.

thanks arghx,
i think i must dril and tap the water housing since it is in better shape than old mine.
do you know what this thermoswitch exactly do?
there are two speeds or three speeds?
if i set the fans speeds from pfc why do i need this switch?
