? No boost after a track session ? and oil in the UIM

Did a track day at Roebling Road raceway today, and after a hard-run (lots of left & right turn sweepers) with my instructor driving with full-boost patterns, we let the turbos cool down and shut her off for 10-minutes.

I checked under the hood and noticed oil dripping from the driver's side of the engine under the UIM.

I remember the thread that said this could happen under high-cornering loads (https://www.rx7club.com/race-car-tech-103/suggestions-fixing-oil-catch-can-problem-226214/) so we just cleaned it up with brake-cleaner.

Then we went out again with me driving. She accelerated well with full boost.

After three warm-up periods, I felt no boost, and no boost on the gauge on the front straight where I normally pull 125+ MPH.

We have full vaccuum, and found no disconnected lines, couplers, etc.

This is a NEW engine with new turbos, broken in for 1,000 miles, on stock setup engine.

Any ideas ?

Did I blow my turbos ?

so at full throttle you had 0 psi? You blew a hole in one of the stock intercooler hoses most likely

Check the bov hose at the y-pipe. That sucker has come off on me twice at the track -- one of the times it didn't look loose. I've since replaced the clamp...

If any hose has popped off or has a hole in it you should hear the leak. If everything is tight and your not hearing any leaks something else is amiss.

Good luck and post back with your discoveries

I noticed the hose and clamps for the BOV was loose, so I'm going to repair that tonight.

Also, on the drive home (2-hrs) from the track, I kept off the boost and between 2500-3000 RPM.

I noticed no more oil on the driver's side of the engine, nor in the elbow.

I'll be taking apart the two outputs to the turbo's and see if there is any shaft play; all hoses of the intercooler, and all hoses.

What else should I check ?

Can someone point me to a post showing how to check the turbos ?

Thanks,
:-) neil

BTW: it was raining fairly quickly at Roebling Road (http://www.roeblingroad.com), and turn 7 is similar to turn 9 at Willow Springs, so late apex, and power on to a long straight, which is good for 125-130 MPH.

Even though I was on line, I think the 2nd turbo kicking in, had me loose traction due to it being so wet, and I know I was probably going too fast (80+ MPH).

It could have been worse.

Thank God, nothing broken, including the reflector, and now just a quick buff and straighten out the exhaust.

Rynberg, you called it!

I noticed the spring clamp was loose on the hose from the front of the Y-pipe to the BOV and had some oil in it.

Cleaned out the oil, and replaced the spring clamp with a REAL screw-down clamp, and took her for a test drive.

Boost is back!

Now to clean off all the oil below and install a catch-can for all those long right-hand sweepers.

What wonders a little 2000 wet-sanding w/soap, Meguire's X-Scratch, and 3M Hand Glaze does, and a coat of Klasse protectant.

Damage? Where? That is a beauty mark! Nothing looks better than a few "character" marks. Way to use the car.

Make sure that the hose at the BOV is still in good shape . they tend to turn brittle after a while. And will crack if looked at funny.

Great! Exactly what I did too -- (replaced with real clamp). It's always nice when it's a simple fix...

Well, I just went to Roebling Road again this weekend, and on my last day, I started to get intermittant NO BOOST on the 2nd turbo.

No leaks, and everything tightned, but I did blow a LOT of oil into the intake. So I think oil got into the solenoids and they are now toast, unless I can "clean"/flush them out with brake cleaner.

Ugh!
