NGK spark plugs..... 9s or what?

I read that NGK 9s are the ones to get.

So I go to Kragen's and they've never heard of them. All they have are the standards and the Platinums, which were like freakin $10.99 each?!?

Is that right or am I asking for the wrong plugs?

THanks.
Dan.

Just go to the PEP BOYS or the mazda dealer and ask for 4 trailing plugs (which are 9's) and don't be cheap. Get the good ones.

^ What Ernie said. RX-7 is high maintenance (parts arent cheap). If you want your car reliable, then you stay on top of it.

Actually Glassman uses the coppers (but changes them frequently)and one of the auto parts stores had those in stock. None of them had the platinums in stock when I looked, so I got them from the dealer. Pep Boys wanted $15/ea, Dealer was $11 and Racing Beat $9 (don't know about MazdaComp nor Mazdaformance).

Oh one of the websites I was on yesterday had a quote from MazdaComp confirming that the leading 7's are for emision purposes and the car would run better with all 9's. Sorry, I can't post the link right now.

the actual number for the plug is BUR9EQP OR BUR9EQ

either or is fine, however, do not try asking for the # itself. give them the info on the car, and then say you want ngk plugs. i say this because stores here in jackson have a hard time cross-referencing the numbers and getting th eright ones....

Oh I wasn't being cheap or trying to be. That price seems to also reflect the ones for a 92 camry that I was buying a new iginition coil for. So I thought I'd order some spark plugs along with them.

The prices for these NGKs are fine with me. Ill have to make a stop by Mazda or PepBoys now........

Thanks again for the replies.

Oh one more thing, what are the the stock plugs for the 3rd gens?

And aren't trailing plugs kinda like secondary plugs?

Thanks

Dan.

I'm running all 9's on my car (BUR9EQ, as I change my plugs every 3-4 oil changes)

Running all 9s is cheap protection against detonation.

Rotaries tend to gobble up spark plugs, like they do oil and gas... if you change them often, it shouldnt matter if you get the platinums or the coppers.

why are the leading plugs 7's when they do most of the work? why did mazda do it this way, simply for emissions or what?

The 9's are a colder plug and are better for a bit more boost.

To add to the plug gap topic. (ONEBADRX-7) Do all of us a favor and take your plug out and look at it..... Tell me how you are going to regap that. I would love to know....

Nope. I used all nines on my daily driver R1 for over 50k miles with no flooding problems.

Also, I'm running NGK 11.5s leading and 10.5s trailing. RP sells them for $30 each, and I use Steve Kan's spark plug sand blaster every weekend to keep them in tip top shape. I guarantee you that I wouldn't have made 368 to the ground without them.

i'm using 11.5s leading also but i think i am using 9s for trailing...gonna have to check. How often do you change out the plugs, especially the 11.5s? i know they are for higher boost but i only run10psi of boost normally so i'm curious if i need to change them as often or do they just go bad from me not boosting enough?

Its got a Gap so Dr. Dre's Jimmy's got to fit. Bow wow wow, yippie ya, yippie yo.

You just stick it in her and play with it, till it gets a little snug.
Make sure to use lots of lube, so it slides out easy, and comes out easy!!!
