Newer Rx-7 (96+) turbo control system?
Newer Rx-7 (96+) turbo control system?
Does anyone know how the new rx-7's (96+) differ from the 93-95's in terms of the sequential turbo system?
Is it simpler? Less hoses, actuators, etc? Or is it controlled the same way?
Thanks
Matt

They also made more horsepower, so there MAY be a difference in the Turbo's - more likely in the ECU though I would think...
My '97 still has a rat's nest though

96 Turbo's themselves are exactly the same I should know I have some for sale. I was told when I bought some 98's that a change was made but its well known that the 99's and up are a bit more efficient. As far as vacuum hoses I havn't a clue.

Think it was the Series VIII RX-7's that got the simplified sequential black-box setup but can't say for sure and there doesn't seem to be too much documentation out there on them.
I have also heard that the turbo control system was simplified later on. Based on comments here, it must have been for the series VIII ('99+). Supposedly a lot of the rats nest was removed and replaced by a single "control box" or something to that effect. Wish I knew more...

If it is true about this black box replacing the rats nest, I wonder if it would be possible to do an upgrade to our cars. One of the biggest problems with our cars is that the sequential control system always has something wrong with it, and finding the problem can be very time-consuming.
Assuming that the newer 7's have gotten rid of, or significantly reduced, these problems, it would be great if we could upgrade to the black box, or whatever. Of course, it probably isn't technically or financially feasible.
Anyone know if it could be done?

One of the guys in our club has a '96 with the 'black box'
He also has 16 bit ECU, now replaced with Power FC.
Told me that replacing hoses was much easier than with the standard rats nest.
Car is a Japanese Import, so it might have been a domestic market only modification...?
Ant, care to comment if you are lurking...?
