Newboy question
Ok, now this may seem real trivial to you guys and i've tried to look it up but i can't seem to find the basic info that i need so here goes:
I just want to confirm the engine size of an rx7. I was under the impression that it was made up of 2 rotary cylinders of 650cc each - making a basic engine size of 1.3. Now, looking through the auto trader magazine i've seen ads that claim that they are selling an rx7 with a 2.6 litre engine so there are a couple of possibilities -
1. I'm flat out wrong
2. The seller is mistaken - thinking that one rotor is 1300cc
3. They've snuck 2 extra rotors in!
Sorry for such a simple question but it's been bugging me for days!
Many Thanks
Phil

You'll find that most people have no idea what a rotary engine is, or that their car even has a rotary. In other cases, the online classified site does not have a rotary engine option, so the seller will just pick anything.
For all intents and purposes, you are correct, it's a 2 rotor engine that would displace 1.3 liters compared in the conventional sense to a piston engine. I really doubt that you'll see too many 3 and 4 rotor cars for sale on sites like autotrader.

You can measure displacement in two ways for a "standard engine" FD. The manufacturer claims 1300cc, which is what most people have come to accept.
However, some of the "racing organizations" have re-rated the displacement to 2600cc. As I recall, this was done to move the RX7 into a faster classification, and take away the advantage it had over "true" 1300cc engines.

philg,
Here's a link that you can read:

While it doesn't necessarily answer the question, it will give you a reason why some people refer to it as 2.6.
