Talking NEW USER...help me out

Hi guys, I am new to this site, and actually new to rx-7's in general. I am 19 and have always loved these cars. I dont have one in my possesion right now. but, if everything goes well I will have one by tomorrow. I am pritty sure I am buying a '93 r1 w/ 100 total, and 20k on 2nd motor and 35k on rebuilt turbos. Im in cali and im getting it for 12,500. I would like to what you guys think of getting an r1 vs a touring. I know that r1 doesnt have leather and does have upgraded suspension. what else is the difference between them?

look around on this site, there is tons of information. and people tend to get pissed when you start a new thread before searching the archives really good (almost everything is in there)

Good luck with the new 7!!!

although that seems like a good price, I would be wary. There are many, many things to look at when buying an FD. Have you read through the newbie stickie at the top?

Before you buy the car, you should at least know the following things:

*compression at all 6 rotor faces
*check for excessive white smoke on cold start/or excessive oil in coolant
*check for boost pattern in 3rd gear test
*general condition of seats and interior
*general condition of paint
*VERY IMPORTANT -- check for accident damage which is common with these cars
*ask owner for maintenance records, if they don't have them, run don't walk away
*be patient and don't just buy the first one you look at (unless it's perfect!)

that's a good start. Good luck with your purchase and welcome to the forum.

the differences between the R-models (R1 and R2) and the touring, or PEG models are:
~R-models have 2 oil coolers, base and touring only have one
~Touring has standard rear wiper, R-model does not
~R-model has front lip and rear spoiler, upgraded suspension
~R-model has front strut tower brace, touring did not come with one
~R-model was 5speed only, no automatic

that's all i can think of off the top of my head. Rynberg hit it right on the head with the tests and things to look out for.
welcome to the forum and good luck with the potential purchase

jimmy

edit: post pics of the car when you get it... nice name too
