New transmission going in on monday what fluid should i put in?

Well I am getting a new tranny put in my car on monday. I was wondering what type of transmission oil i should put in, i've heard synthetic oil is good to put in the tranny, should i go with synthetic in the new tranny?

I'm using Neo per other's recommendations. Just search. Other's recommend Redline. Either should work great in a new transmission (I envy you).

It really helped my "difficulty" getting into 2nd. Smoothed it out nicely.

Neo is definately wonderful stuff. I started using it 3 yrs ago per recomendations on the big list. At the time the car wouldn't shift smoothly, my 2nd gear syncro had some issues, etc, and Neo cleared it up.

Also I've read on a few webpages that people had trouble with redline, but there's always conflicting information out there.

If you can find it Neo is the way to go...http://www.neosyntheticoil.com/where.htm

Scroll down to the bottom... notice who sells Neo in Japan?

One last thing... I higly recommend that you buy a mityvac tool for any future gear oil changes. It's been invaluable, with the car up on jackstands it's the easy way to pump in the oil. And on top of that you can use it for other things like inspecting your check valves.

Good luck.

THe only redline oil you can use is the MT90, the MTL is a no no as it's way too thin. I'm currently using the mobil 1 synthetic 75W90 gear oil. Any synthetic will be better than the regular dino oil. And you need i believe 2.5 quarts. I'm not too sure how often you should change, but i think every 15K or so is good. But it's a good idea to check the fluid level every so often. (not that hard)

I have used both Royal Purple and Redline MT90 in the tranny. Either one is a great improvement over conventional oil, but I prefer the Redline over the Royal Purple....I noticed much smoother shifting after I switched from Royal Purple to Redline.

I have never used the Redline MTL before, but I can say that Ivan told me the same thing RX7Elmo said...basically the MTL is too thin.

I just wanted to confirm Redline MTL is no good.
I had it and just replaced it with NEO.

The NEO is amazing.
It shifts so smooth it's like I have a new car.

Another NEO user here. A gallon is just enough to fill the tranny and the diff. The tranny feels good and the diff even better. It truly is better than Redline; NEO seems to hold up better.

With anything mechanical, i think you are suppose to use regular oil for a short break in period before you swithch to synthetic oil. For instance when you rebuild a rear end to change the gears, you are suppose to break it in with regular oil before using the synthetic stuff.
