i have a 93 tt and have only a few questions...

1. sometimes 2nd turbo doesn't feel like it is kicking in but 90% of the time it's fine...
2.strange tapping sound coming from trans durring accel?

3. what are the pros and cons of removing the stock air pump.... will that throw a check engine light?

1) put on a boost gauge and get some numbers. Owing to the fact the problem is intermittent, I would bet $1 on turbo control solenoids or a small leak.

2) Does it happen in all gears? Does it keep time with engine rpm? Does it happen in all gears? Does it happen when the engine is hot or cold or both?
Consider draining the oil and dropping the main pan to look for gear chips.

3) Run a search on "air pump removal" or "air pump elimination". You should find plenty of info.

Tapping sound could be mild detonation too, find your local Rx-7 shop...
