Sounds like you have a coolant leak. As for the smell and smoke, it might be your exhaust or your coolant's leaking on some hot parts of your car.

Welcome OneKrazyGuy. Another new Bay Area FD owner. I'm just over in Castro Valley. Your problems could be as simple as leaks or as serious as a bad engine. An original engine at 138k is seriously rare. Rick should take care of you well, I've gotten a pretty good vibe from him so far and quite a few people go to him. Your shakes while braking are probably due to warped rotors, a common problem with sports cars of any mileage.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Yeah, I live just off Redwood by the library. Hopefully will be getting a house in San Lorenzo within the next month or so. I also work in CV, so my VR FD will be still cruising around there everyday.

BTW, you probably shouldn't drive the car at all until you can get it to Rick's. There no sense risking overheating or blowing the engine if there's something wrong with the car.

Good luck.

Wow that's a lot of mileage.
I have a feeling your turbos are leaking the coolant and oil.
As far as the steering wheel shaking, sounds like warped brake rotors, just have them resurfaced or replaced if they don't have enough "meat" left.

It depends, there are several seals, one or more may just need rebuilding.
If the turbos are injesting coolant they could sieze or become damaged.

Most likely a shop will rebuild the whole unit, should only be about $500 as long as nothing major is wrong.

You could get a set of used turbos as well for abour $400 but with used parts you never know what shape they're going to be in.
