BC New rad install running out of space...could need some inputs

Hello,

I have installed a Koyo rad on my 94 Touring (that I am slowly upgrading to R specs) and I am running into fitment problems. I want to track the car this year, I am after reliability not power (my engine has ~9000 m). I got the car this summer.

Before purchasing the rad, I searched the forum quite a bit and got aware that some people had some fitment problems, for some it was the airbox not fitting for some others the battery etc... well it looks like I won the grand prize in the sense that I got every problems I could find related to that....

My car is stockish (HKS downpipe plus a few other items) and I would like it as stock as possible (apart from reliability modifications I am slowly getting into). It turns out that:

Above the rad:

Airbox can't fit on the brackets anymore
IC is raised and prevents the hood from closing
Battery tray had to be slightly cut so as not to hit any fan blade

Below the rad:
Koyo rad was too close to A/C rad so I had to put some spacers (there is now 1cm between the two rads)
The fan plastic is rubbing against one of my oil cooler line (I still have the single setup)
Swaybar mounts had to be modified as they would not support the rad and bolt at their genuine location.

I have a few ideas in mind but I realized I could have researched the subject even more before starting so this time I'll do the same and ask for advice as well. The thing is I don't have any garage but can use my company's prototype shop to work on my FD, it's cool but the downside is that I can't leave it for more than a WE.

I was thinking of getting thinner aftermarket fans instead of changing everything else that I listed but wanted to run by your point of view in the first place, it will save me some mistakes I am sure.

I have put half of the airbox with zip strap every where so I could move it out of the shop, I know it looks ugly but that was just so I could move it slowly from A to B.

What would you guys do in the same situation?

Thanks.

I have attached some pics.

i had to slightly tweak my lower two brackets to get to rad to slide in. i also had to remove them and install all at once with the rad. you have to remove a few other brackets and bolts besides the odvious stuff. i think i had to remove the lower sway bar as well. its kinda a pain but take your time and keep track of **** and it will work

If I am not mistaken I had to re-drill the holes in this model of rad. Make sure you use a block of wood to stop the drill. The brackets that on this model will allow this. It has been several years ago. I will look for some pictures

None of you guys had issues with airbox, IC, battery tray (hood closing)?

Mines are all stock, how about yours?

Fitting Koyo Rad

I had to do a little fitting, including the bottom brackets on the sway bar brackets, fabricating the top radiator brackets(my car had a cheap aftermarket rad and the top brackets were not original),trimming top of radiator shroud. No trouble with closing the hood etc.See pics and search " koyo radiator install"

99% done

I have just managed to move some brackets around and fit everything back together, now the hood closes, no problems with stuff above the rad, I had to push the A/C rad though and I have not completely finished but I am glad I arrived at that point (not very easy without a garage).

Thanks a lot for your help guys.
