A new project, please guide me right!

Im going to get me a rx7 gen3 this winter. And start aim for my goal witch is a 11sec car that you can "if you whant" drive to work and that is reliable

My budget is around $17k for the car, and about the same for reaching my goal

I have research the net and this forum on what to get. But its stil som question i need answers to..
Here it goes...

What is the mod I have to do to the engine internal ( apex etc ), to make it reliable to handel the boost?
New apex seals? ANd must I get a new "stand alone" fuel management system?

And how much can the drive line take ( gear box etc )? Is 500hp to much for the stock tranny?

THanks for your time...

Reliable 11 sec car is an oxymoron. Save the 17k, sell your car, combine it with the 17k you already have and buy a Supra.

WHen I say "reliable" i dont mean like a volvo. Just a car that you can drive in town, as well on the track. And I dont like the supra, I love the rx7

Thanks

u need: downpipe, midpipe, catbac, intake, a standalone ecu, new secondary injectors and fuel pump, a big intercooler. that will do 11s if u can drive, considering the car is running right.

i would also get new radiator, ast, change all the hoses, water temp gauge, boost gauge, and a few others, get new suspesnshion, maybe get a second set of wheels for when u wanna go the track and what u wanna run on the street. and fix anything thats wrong with it if anything and u will have a fast car taht is relible

You can change them, however, that requires an engine rebuild. Most people usually just wait for the seals to fail before upgrading them.

There are stronger 2MM and 3MM seals that can be used. As far as which is better 2MM or 3MM, there you can search the forum for that one. There are lots of debates on that topic.

You can have porting done with the rebuild, most people usually do. Basically, a rebuild involves about $3000.

The engine is removed, torn down, worn/damaged parts are replaced, and then rebuilt again. You can opt to have porting done at that time if you like.

Spending $3000 before you need to is not usually a good option. It better to just wait until you need a rebuild and then do any seal upgrades or porting that you would like at that point.

You can always purchase a FD with a blown engine, and then have it rebuilt with everything from the start. That what I would do if I had it over to do again.

on stock apex seals u can run 600 hp, there is no need for 3mm and u dont wanna go over ~400 to the wheels before before gettign a few things out of teh way inside teh engine.

Ok so 400hp with all the uppgrade parts needed. ANd with a stockengine with all the safty uppgrades. You can have a fast rx7 that shoul hold up fine? That sounds nice

How is tranny on this car, strong/weak?
And what in theory shoul a 400 hp rx7 run on the quarter?

Thanks

Yep, you can make around 400HP (not rwhp) with upgraded parts and stock twin turbos. However, if you are going to daily drive the car, you should look into a boost controller to limit the boost for daily driving. That will help not add un-needed stress on the car for just driving around town.

Don't worry about the tranny. Unless you start making 450rwhp, I doubt you'll have any problem.

As for the 1/4 mile times? There are too many varibles like the track surface, driver, tires.. One person may run low 12's, another person may run mid 13's in the same car. You won't know until you run the track yourself and see what *you* get.

Sure, if you do all the bolt-ons (dp, mp, cb, ic, intake, etc), re-programmable ECU tuned for your car, and some slicks or drag radials, you could probably get into the high 11's "under perfect circumstances".

However, I dislike saying "that car should run XX in the 1/4 mile".

Mainly because there are so many varibles and also if people don't get the time they expect they are either unhappy with the car or themselves.

Just get out there and run, see what happens.
