I've long been fascinated with rotary engines, and I finally went out and got a Red 88 vert 5 speed. All is good except for minor "tinkering" repairs like loose wires, balky antenna, master cylinder, and so on. All is stock and shows little signs of being 'futzed' with, which is really nice, especially on a car this old.
One thing I was really happy about was that I could push out the dents in the front fenders ahead of the wheel openings by just removing the fender liners to get access to the back, and simply applying pressure til they popped out! So now theres just a couple little dimples where there used to be major eyesores.
Now for a few questions:
What are you using to replace the stock CD player? The Pioneer unit skips badly and the right side crackles and cuts out a lot. (The radio and tape work fine).
Does anyone have a spare "port air solenoid valve"? Mine snapped off at the end, and I'm not really sure what it does. I do want to replace it , all the same.
I think I might be a victim of the dreaded leaky pulsation damper. I'm not sure because when idling, there are no signs of leakage. But after a 15 minute drive, I'd smell gas while parking, and theres wet gas below and to the right of the damper. Would the damper leak only happen while driving, or all the time? Following warnings I've read elsewhere, it's not going anywhere til fixed.
Sure am glad this forum is here and look forward to trading info, pics, etc.
