Smile new fd owner down under

hey guys

this is my first post here as an rx7club member...been doin a lot of reading but thought i'd post one instead!

i have an oz-delivered 96 fd. the quoted power output is 265hp at the flywheel.
i had the car dynoed today at 211.8rwhp. is it normal to have 20% loss through drivetrain?

i've purchased a HKS silent hi-power exhaust and apex power intake which i plan to place sometime next week (together with dp and hi-flow cat). the oz-delivered rx7s run pretty damn rich and together with 98octane feul i've been told i shouldn't have any probs if i dont increase boost + i dont race the car and rarely beat the crap out of it! am i safe?

i've also just been told that the stock air box/filter is better than the apex power intake? should i just install the exhaust and leave the stock filter? wat r ur opinions?

ur help is much appreciated

cheers,

HK

You can leave the stock box but replace the filters with K&N or something, I have the Apexi intakes right now and I think their pretty good. You should get a Power FC when you put on all that stuff. And dont be scared to use the "search" function to find answers to your questions.

That's in the ballpark although it seems on the low side, but the numbers depend on several variables (type of dyno, weather, etc.). What's the mileage on your car, BTW?

i've purchased a HKS silent hi-power exhaust and apex power intake which i plan to place sometime next week (together with dp and hi-flow cat). the oz-delivered rx7s run pretty damn rich and together with 98octane feul i've been told i shouldn't have any probs if i dont increase boost + i dont race the car and rarely beat the crap out of it! am i safe?

If I were you, I'd install a boost gauge first to make sure your boost pattern (10-8-10) is proper, then do the mods in stages. With a DP and exhaust you should be fine, but with the addition of an intake and/or hi-flow cat will cause your boost to spike and run lean eventually blowing your motor. You can address this with a boost controller set @ 10 PSI or an aftermarket EMS to allow for more fuel at higher boost levels, although 98 octane gas may you give a bit of a margin.

You'll also want to consider the "reliability mods" for your car's longevity. Do a search for those.

And, congrats on the buy.

thanx guys

car's done about 37000 miles.

and yeah i am planning on getting an ecu, but unfortunately, in perth, tuners only use the commander. the rotorshops here use microtech- which means i'll have to run the turbos non-seq. so i'm a bit undecided...as they say the ecu is only as good as the tuner!

btw can i use the stock box with the apexi power intake?

i've been running searches all day and even though i probably know the answer to my question i would still like some confirmation - i have decided only to add a catback exhaust and dp. i'll upgrade to hi-flow cat, apex intake, and might as well fmic TOGETHER with PFC. smart thing to do? also, is it easy to put the hi-flow cat later on?

thanx

I guess your running a series 6 fd which ofcourse is and Fd3s.LOl nice buy. with that setup you'll get away with it. I did those same mods on my FD3S Type R and it was stupidly fast. what you wanna do for spiking is change the pills thats runs from the turbo to the actuator for the wastegate for less boost. I as getting 7-8 psi all the time . I changed the pill to a 48(same as carbarater Jets). and I'd get a little spike when the nights were really cold and I nailed it hard in 3rd Gear.
When your ready for and ecu, you can go to RE, NightSport.

Better yet, check these guys http://www.rx7.net.nz/fdkai.htm , I've followed them for a while and they can tell you about your resouces that are close to you.

Good luck on the NEW project "safe driver" guy. LOL
