New FD owner
Just purchased my first FD. Its a 93 Mont Blue with 49K miles. It is in great shape! It is however Bone stock. I want to do reliability mods and need advice. Basically, what should I do. I want to lower operating temp so was thinking high efficiency radiator. Is that the way to go? Also, what is a DP?
Also, anyone know of a good warranty you can get that will cover mechanical problems? I have heard they exist... Thanks ahead of time.

Welcome and congrats!
Call Mazda and make sure all of the recalls are done.
If you aren't doing any power mods, then you shouldn't need an expensive aftermarket radiator. You can rig the radiator fans to run constantly. This is called the "fan mod".
A DP is a Down Pipe, which replaces the pre-catylitic converter. A DP is both a power and a reliability mod.

quick, get the warranty before you hit 50k I think you save big if you get it before 50k I had a warranty w/ my first 3rd gen, but it was transferred and I really don't recall. Expect to pay, but also know if you do upgrades to the car things fall out of warranty. If you are putting down 300hp and have 18 inch rims, don't expect the rear diff to be covered... Infact, they will try their best to jam you.... so unless you are pretty much stock, it is a hard road to fight.... Search for reliability mods, but aluminum air separator tank, boost gauge and down pipe is a good place to start... Hell, I even think those are warranty friendly....

At this point, I would just worry about replacing the AST and getting a downpipe, and a boost gauge. There is no need to replace the radiator, especially in Washington (not too many triple digit days). If you want to run a bit cooler, turn on your parking lights while driving, the fans will kick on much sooner -- about 210 degrees I believe.
Definitely read through the reliability mod sections on the Robinette and Steve Ciriani sites. But don't get carried away, I think many people are too paranoid about their FD. The car does require maintenance but it's not a ticking time bomb either (stock anyway).
Also, unless you are shown the maintenance records, go ahead and do the 60k mile service right away so you know where you stand.
Congratulations and good luck.
