A couple of months ago I priced some dealers in the Bay Area and in the Central Valley of CA. The cheapest I found was $2200 plus the deposit. I ended up going a different wrought but was seriously considering a option for some of the rebuilders.

Yeah, I think Mazda remanufactured engines (they are not new unless you get the occasional new ones they send over) are now about $2200 from the dealer. I think the core charge is $900-$1000. Many people get theirs rebuilt, on the assumption that the reputable tuners will do a better job than the Mazda folks.

i got a brand new engine sent from mazda about a year ago, not rebuilt/remanufactured. i think if i can remember correctly, the engine itself was ~2900 plus your core, and labor and extra parts was like another $1000 or so. this was not at a mazda dealership though, i wouldnt trust the monkeys that work at the one here in the city.

If the continuing group buy is still going on here on the East Coast, that price is correct. The group buy was through Malloy Mazda.

This is what was posted on the big list last year...

> The MANA motor group buy intitiated by Malloy Mazda
> and KD Rotary last month
> will continue indefinitely, and applies to all years
> of the Mazda Rx7.
> Remanufactured rotary engines can be purchased for
> below cost at $1750.00,
> which does not include the gasket set (aproximately
> $120.00) or shipping
> costs. It is not necessary for the motors to be
> installed at the KD Rotary
> facility, but we will install these motors for
> $1000.00, which is as much as
> $1000.00 less than what most other shops perform the
> same work for.
>
> About twenty Mazda owners have taken advantage of
> these arrangements up to
> this point in time. Contact Ray Crowe at Malloy

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure you can't get a new Mazda rotary motor. Your the first person I've heard of that said they bought a Brand New Engine from Mazda. I've heard/seen others buying all the parts new from Mazda and building up a "new motor" but we all know that has a price tag exceeding $5K.

Show us something, ie proof. Got a part #?

Thanks,
Jeff

With turbos, manifolds, and the control system, I believe the price is over $12,000 to build a new motor from parts. I have personally bought more than $4000 (if I paid dealer prices) worth of rebuild parts for one motor, and that did not include intermediate or side housings or any manifolds or control system parts.

That's what I was told when I did my remanufactured a years ago and I specifically asked about a *new* unused engine.

I don't think "being shipped from Japan" necessarily makes it a new motor. Mine was remanufactured and still got shipped from Japan. Took 3 and a 1/2 freaking months to get to the dealer, I'll never forget that long wait. Wish I would have known about rebuilds then...

I just bought a remanufactured Mazda engine for my 1987 NonT RX-7 it was $1945 + core (975). I think that the price for 3° gen is about $2200. The engine comes packed like a jewel in a big plastic molded box. The engine looks great, just like new. I´m thinking how many parts could be used in that engine? maybe the rotors & front and rear housings that´s all because the rotors housings looks like brand new.

It´s pretty-

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure you can't get a new Mazda rotary motor.
I have heard of one or two people who got a brand new motor from Mazda dealerships. I am not sure if I believe that they were really brand new.

John Duff was peddling 3 brand new engines on the World RX7 list last year.
I gave him a check for one but I never got it. Eventually, I got my money back.
According to Duff, that motor is at Malloy Mazda being stored there until the legal problems(Farrel vs Duff, Monsen, etc) are resolved.

You may be able to import an entire engine from Japan via Corksport but it will cost more than $10,000.

Pineapple racing seems to have about the lowest price for a rebuild, even with the 5 year warranty work. They have a good reputation so far too. Of course, by the time you pay shipping on that motor both ways, it might be better if you could drive the car to a respected tuner near you. Where are you located?

They are not the cheapest, but they are one of the most respected tuners in the country. You won't go wrong taking it there.

Well, there are several shops in the LA area, people that live down there would be of more help (Mazdatrix, Rotary Power, etc). There's Pinapple racing in Oregon. There's Rotary Performance near Dallas.

Where's Phillips Ranch?
