Question new ecu = crazy idle when fan comes on."why"

I just got my used RE Amemiya. I hooked up every thing. When the fans are not running it is fine, but when the fans come on, the rpms jump up to 2300 and bounce to 2600 back and forth until my fans shut off. Why does this do this? How can I make it goe away, and run normal...

I have no idea? Have you disconected the battery to reset the ECU, maybe that could be it? Thats all that I can come up with.

Dan,

the ECU is going to raise idle when Fans come on, but shoudl only do it by couple hundred rpm or so. It may be something programmed wrong in the ECU. High idle is generally cause by too much air at idle. I woudl check that fast-idle cam isn't engaged, throttle cable adjustment, etc.

I had a problem where my fans woudl come on all the time, without sending an electrical load signal to the ECU. caused bad idle, etc. You could have som esort of electrical problem, but if it works ith stock ECU, most likelyt the ECU. You haev a very strange problem. Is there anythign else you can elaborate on, that may have something to do with it?

i just bought my first RX7 this weekend, and right after i bought it, i noticed it has a strange idle, similar to the one dan described. it's a 93 tt, and it's bone stock. mine idles at around 1.5k, then drops to 1.25 (or so) and bounces up to 2k then stays at 1.5 again. are strange idles like this a common thing with RX7s? some friends of mine, who are mechanical but not necessarily with roatarys, have suggested spark plug wires or maybe the alternator? any thoughts would be appreciated

I have a similiar problem, but mine appear that when the lights are on my idle runs high. When I turn off my lights the idle goes back down to normal. This happens when I am cruising and put it into neutral and my rpm drops to 1500 or so. I would then turn off my lights and my idle drops to normal. My friend suggested that it might be the alternator going bad. I am going to check it this weekend. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Dan,
This problem has came up before. I have called RE about it. They dont actually tune their own ECU's. BUT they said it shouldnt be happening. NOW I requested one, and if we can get it here, we can checked, fix and back you, probably free or a very low costs. They said they cant say over the phone what it is without, having the ECU or CAR in hand...
Thanks
Jason

I tried to edit my post, but it wasnt working, SO if you send yours to us, we can see about getting it fixed or at least looked at, im sure if its not free, it will be very cheap....You do still have your stock ECU right?

Thanks

this is normal, the car will idle higher with a load. that's so it doesn't stall when you turn on the a/c or lights. Now as for the bouncing. Several people have that problem. No one seems to know how to fix it. It happens stock, it happens with my PFC, it happens to a lot of people. It's one of life's great mysteries.

idle

weaklink: I would understand that the car will idle a little higher when the car is under more load, but not as high as 1500. It seems like something is sticking because when my lights are on, I tap the gas pedal and it falls to normal.

canman: if it was the alternator, wouldn't it cause a lower idle rather higher idle?

You said it yourself didnt you? or did I read it wrong, your idle is up, and when you hit the lights it goes to normal. Heck man its really easy to check your alternator with a voltimeter. Then you will know where your at. I have had some of the simular problems you guys are having except for the 2000 idle when the fans come on, I dont know what the hell that is. BUT some times my idle wiggs out a little, so I switch my lights and my inside fans, and it makes my idle all good. I always just imagined it was the computer trying to think.. Im just helping it out haha

canman: I did say it, but when I think about it the idle should go down rather than up. I am going to check my alternator just to rule it out. I tried to simulate what I did last night with the light this morning on my way to work, but could not duplicate the idle returning to normal when I turn off my lights. I am going to try to reset my ecu this weekend and thanks for the help.
