New CYM owner saying hi...

Well I just picked up my first 7 last night and I have to say I'm loving every minute of it. Here is the run down... '93 CYM R-1, 80,000 miles pretty bone stock for now. It has a Pettit boost gauge and AST tank and a HKS timer and down pipe. I got the car from a guy in MA who got it from a guy in Fl. The car has always been garaged kept and it shows. I bought a '98 Suupra Turbo last year and it had only 5,000 miles on it when I bought it and I can say that the paint is just as nice no B/S. The interior is is just about perfect as well with the exception of a couple tiny scatches here and there but would only be noticeable to someone **** (like me). Just kidding, the guy I bought it from was great to deal with he met me half way in NY and represented the vehicle very well. The only issue that I have with it is the rear speakers are blown and the center vents do not blow hot air only the bottom and top vents blow hot air, the center blows air just fine but it is cold as ice makes no sence. Got to take it apart to try and figure it out this weekend. Hopefully its not that big a deal. Can't wait to start modding it. I would like to thank Ernie T and Demetrios K for turning me over to the dark side. I do miss my 800HP Supra had to put that in there for D but I'm ready for a new challenge. Did I hear 3 rotor? (that's for you ernie ) I will post some pics as soon as Big Perm (Ernie T to everyone else) gets his *** over here with that cool millon dollar camera of his. Thanks, Joe

I guess its time to change my screen name!

Welcome. And the center vents are designed not to blow hot air out. I think they explain it in the owner's manual.

Congrats as well. Just a question of opinion but with speed/power aside(no sense in comparing 800hp to 255hp) do you like the cockpit(drivers area) of the rx7 better? Or do you like the way the supra cockpit feels better?

Tests revealed that blowing hot air into the driver's face would make them sleepy and may cause an accident. No hot air for you!

A big thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and all the information that was provided. To answer some questions its a hard decision to make on which cockpit I like better. They are both greatly designed cockpits and they both offer great views. I will say that I feel much more wedged in in the 7 which is a good thing rather than the Supra where I felt I swam around a bit in the twisties. It seems that I fit in the 7 just perfect I just sink in and it takes the turns like its on rails. I had the HKS hiper max damper II on the Supra and it does not handle as well as the bone stock CYM. I'm most impressed with that. The seats are not as comfortable as the Supra but lets face it this car was not designed for all out comfort. Its all about getting the feel of the road and you feel everything. The Supra may have been a bit more modern looking and prettier but I'm very happy with the 7. I do love the fact that the tach is where its supposed to be in the center and the chrome bezels are a great accent to the gauges. I ordered the Mazdaspeed shortshifter, ****, and the '99 tail lights that will be here tomarrow for install can't wait. This is just to get started and get some things on the car by the weekend. I'm falling more and more in love with her everyday that I have her. Its definitely one o fhte best cars I have every owned. Thanks, Joe

Wow, I wasn't expecting to hear that one.

I basically asked the question of which one you liked better because I figure with you just obtaining the CYM and just getting rid of the Supra you'd have the thought of how the two cars compare fresh in your mind.

Well have fun with your car and make it faster than Ernie's!!

WOW. nice rides man. My friend has a supra and I know what u mean...there is a bit more room in the cabin, but ey, the sacrifices made for handling and speed in my 7 are hardly considered something that would worry me. Oh, and one thing about the tailights...sorry this is a bit off sub., but are u ordering the real ones? Because there is a way to make them... a lot of the guys on the forums have fabricated a stencil and saved a lot of money. Looks very close to the real thing. Just a suggestion. The money could be spent somewhere else, and make a bigger smile

Do you still have your supra? Do you live anywhere near Owings Mills MD? I saw a guy a few months back in a quicksilver supra pulling out of the Toyota dealer in Owings Mills.

Glad to finally have a CYM in MD. Gotta come to the BBQ's...nothin' but a good time.

Did you actually buy real 99 taillights or just converted ones?

Justin

Thanks guys for the warm welome once agian. To answer some questions...I guess if I have to answer the interior thing it would be the 7 for all out feel for the road thing meaning the way it makes you feel snug and tight in the cockpit but yet still roomy but I have to say that the Supra had a more newer cleaner refined look with lots of comfort and a great view like I said earlier its a hard choice to make. If I were out with the buddies the 7 definetly and if I were with a chic proly the Supra I already ordered the new ones from Cork Sport and they arrived today with the shifter and ****. Newbie mistake had no idea it could have been done to the existing ones oh well live and learn. I live in Perry Hall area and I doubt it was mine because I was in Italy for a couple months and the guy who bought it lives in Serverna Park. I know what you mean I find myself just sitting and staring at it and gaze at its splendor. ITs the coolest color car I have ever had its not like any yellow I have ever seen on a production car. I have some pretty wild plans for her within the next up and coming months with the help of Demetrios and Ernie it should be quit a site. I'm going to keep it kinda a secret for now till some of the parts start arriving then I will let everybody in on the surprise Thanks again and I will be posting some pics very soon.

Joe

If you want a link go to www.alteredatmosphere.com there are a bunch of pics of all of my cars. The pics of the Supra with the 19" C5's on them are from a year ago at MIR when I won Toyota racer of the week with the car and it was on display in the HKS booth as the show car being that everything on it came from them. We were interviewed on ESPN at that event it was cool I won $1,000 and a trophy. Thanks,

Joe
