Neutral safety switch wire

Hi guys. Can anyone shed some light on where I can find the neutral safety switch wire in an auto FD? What color wire/location etc?

There's been a LOT of car theft in my suburb in the past week, and they were even brazen enough to steal a friends car from across the street from the local police station, and out of another friend's locked garage while he was at work. In my other car (a Mopar) I had installed a concealed momentary button in the neutral safety switch wire to the automatic trans, and this was enough to save it from being stolen on one occasion. I want to rig something similar on the FD for the time being. Its a bit of a magnet to thieves, being the only FD in the area.

Thanks

Not sure what you are looking for with this one. Park/neutral switch can be found in the electrical wiring diagrams..check archives for pdf file. Why not just pull a main fuse to kill the car.

I know the neutral safety switch (or "inhibitor switch") wire runs out the back of the ignition barrel, but the wiring diagrams dont give a wire color to look for. Well, maybe they do, but I dont have a reference to what the wire color abbreviations in the wiring diagrams are.

Basically I dont want to pull a fuse every time I lock the car at night, and then have to put the fuse back in the morning. By installing a simple concealed momentary switch in the neutral safety switch wire, I can press the momentary button and the car will crank and start. Any thieves that break into the car will not know this. They can smash or force the ignition barrel mechanism, but as long as the neutral safety switch wire is interupted by a concealed switch, they car will never crank. They will give up and leave. Its a simple deterrent that has worked before. Any automatic car should have a neutral safety switch, and this is the cheapest, easiest way to frustrate thieves.

I dropped my Mopar off to the local auto electrician for some ignition work a year ago, and left it in his carpark. 10 minutes later I was sitting in Mc Donalds when I got a phone call- "We cant get this car started. It just doesnt crank when you hit the key. Somethings wrong, we cant start it to get it into the workshop" So I had to explain to them that they needed to hold the momentary switch and turn the key. If auto electricians cant start it, I figure some nervous pimply kid with a pair of scissors shoved in the ignition will give up pretty quickly

Page Z-26 in the wiring diagram is what I believe you're looking for.

You can buy fuel pump relays that are a direct swap that come equipped with an encrypted radio frequency transmitter, you gotta push the button on the remote for the fuel to turn on. Just an idea in case you decide to go high tech. I'm assuming you don't want to mess with an actual alarm system or else you would've mentioned it. Sorry I don't know the answer.

Railgun is right, if you look at the wiring portion of the manual your answer is on pages Z-26 and Z-27.

Z-26 shows that the wiring comes from the Ignition switch as Black/Blue wire then after it goes through the 'Starter Cut Relay' it is a Blue/White wire. After that it connects through the x-05 connector and becomes Blue/Yellow. The 'Inhibitor Switch' itself breaks continuity between the Blue/Yellow wire and the Red/Yellow wire in the A2-04 connector that is attached to the switch at the back of the transmission. I think it was a gray connector but I'm not sure.

location of the A2-04 connector (inhibitor switch) can be seen on Z-27

FYI - The reference to what the wiring colors mean is in the General Information section of the manual

Thanks to Toroids and Railgun for helping me figure this one out. Thats exactly what I needed to know
I'm a bit unsure of reading the Mazda wiring diagrams, because I've had the luxury of reading old sixties/seventies Dodge/Mopar wiring diagrams, in which everything is hand drawn and the notations are clearer and the wiring is simpler.

I went away from RX-7s for about 5 years up til now, and the wiring diagrams take some getting used to. I will look later at getting a proper alarm installation done, but for now I'm going to stay low tech and use a hidden switch. There's a huge list of things this car needs, but I'm getting there... Thanks guys
