Unhappy Need your help - Is my engine gone?

..ok...here is the deal, a couple of days ago I started smelling a real sweet smell when I have been driving my car. The smell is not too noticable right now and the car appears to be running ok. Now I went to check the radiator overflow and when I pulled out the dipstick, it was covered in some black substance that smelled like rubber. Any ideas?? Think maybe the radiator hose may be deteriorating from the inside, or do you think it might be the seals??

I also had a compression test done about two weeks ago after driving the car for over three years, all the numbers were above 9.0, except for one which in the back which was 8.5, figured it might just be carbon buildup or dirty fuel injectors, so I ran a fuel injector cleaner through it. I also noticed/heard after driving it hard last week, when I opened my hood to the let the engine cool, that it sounded like the coolant was bubbling, is that not normal because I am sure I have heard it in the past too. I am also certain that the car is has not overheated at all, I keep an eye on my temp guage and have not seen any signs of it overheating.

Couple of notes, this is a 94 FD and the engine was replaced at 59,000 miles, I bought it at 61,000 and it currently has 88,000.

Now I am not driving the car and am taking it to RP tomorrow, but I wanted to see what you RX-7 guru's think. Think the engine is toast??

Thanks

Black sludge on dipstick can be the coating on the inside of coolant hoses. This happened when a coolant hose was replaced. Happend for a couple thousand miles then went away. Are you loosing coolant? I know I have a slight coolant leak somehwere in my car, but not the o-rings since I don't smell coolant out of the tailpipe., I do however sometimes smell it when driving coming from the engine bay.

...I have tried to tell, I can definately smell in near the front of the car, I have tried to see if I smell it near the tail pipe and best I can tell is maybe a little, or it may just be the wind carrying the smell back there. I just hope it is not the seals
