the problem is you refuse to listen to reason and sometimes when turbojeff or rynberg or majik or jimlab, (etc sorry)... tells you something and you dont listen you are the stupid one. very few people have managed to fabricate their own IC's. kevin t wyum is one of them i believe his design is the m2. you are wasting your money and your time.

i am planning on doing this as well, not counting time as money i think this should only cost 5-600 to finish the job seeing that i have a koyo already. spearco/stock evo intercooler=2-400, new rad. lines, ast relocation as far as that stuff goes, but you also do need to relocate the battery and a few other things. This is definetly gonna be a project to say the least but its a learning experience and its gonna be fun.

The fun part comes when you discover the core you bought is too large and you can't close the hood or the bends connecting to the output tubes won't clear the hood. Then you get to eat an intercooler, end tanks and welded tubes, err unless of course you use the dramatic "JDM style pretend mandrel" welded section bends, then you can just cut everything apart again and weld them together differently, perhaps an enhancement with more weld joints : ). If you say you're going to do your own, then DO YOUR OWN! Don't ask for dimensions of other IC's trying to copy them. I'm really looking forward to seeing your finished product.

I'm on the NABR board (dsm forum) and I can tell you right now if you posted this very post on that board they would bann you before you had time to edit it. They will bann people for spelling wrong, when posting there I actaully spell check eveything in word before posting it. It sounds like your on the wrong dsm boards.

Also, like everyone else was saying, if you think you have the skills to build a good quality professional V mount kit then you shouldnt have any problems going out to your car with a tape measure and seeing what size core to order. What you need to do is make some custom brackets to mount the radiator, then once thats in place and all the lines are ran you need to mock up a IC our of cardboard and mount it in the car. THEN you'll know what size to get.

If you want one off, then make one off. You do it the way I said and then you really can take pride in it. I promise its not going to be some 10-15hr job. Hell, I probably have well over 6hrs just on my IC and rad mock ups. I know people that have 10hrs just installing thier v mount KIT haha. Listen to that guy that is a professional fabricator that told you he has 40-50hrs in his....much more realistic

Do it right yourself and know its right the first time, dont trust what others tell you....that way when you pick up the phone and order that $700 core you know positively that its going to work.

Good Luck, dont come crying if you buy $1200 worth of **** and it dont fit right and you end up spending another $2400 on a kit.....I've seen it happen lol

Stephen

Wow, this sure erupted pretty good. I'll share my experience because I did make my own v-mount. First off, I am in no means the greatest fabricator in the world, nor is what I post, the bible on v-mounts. I simply tried to help out someone who has their own interest in something, just like I did. That said, I would have to agree that fabbing your own kit could be cost effective, if you know what you're doing, but by no means time effective. I too spent countless hours on the computer, at my desk, sketching, planning, and designing. That's where a bulk of the hours were taken up, the planning portion. I went back and forth between my current rad and intercooler, or just buying new of both and starting fresh. I will be making another one in the near future with a different core, and rad, but that's another story in itself. After I found the right angle, I began looking for mounting points. With those sorted out, I began fabbing brackets. Once those were attatched, I hung the rad. Then the intercooler came. The entanks on the greddy 2 row were a bitch, just the repositioning of those alone became a 10-15 hour project. This is of course the condensed version, but you get the idea. After the basics were done, about a million little things had to be done, which I will not get into for the love of all the readers. This is not an easy task, and although I thinkg 2850 is a bit much, I would have no problem charging that if I were building them everyday. Good luck to all, if you need any more indepth, try and convince me to document those nightmarish days of welding, cutting, grinding, bending and of course drinking in a thread. I would have to say the most important tool in a project like this would have to be beer.

I have a solution for you. Buy a kit, use it as a template, make your own, and sell the kit back to someone on this forum or on ebay. That way you can have the exact size and see what all you need and how to install it. Good luck, I am always looking for other ways of saving money so I can buy something else for my 7.

I just want to go on record and say that I have never, ever, called anyone on this forum a nebie.

this sounds like a good idea, until you consider that no one is going to pay full price for a "used" piece, even if it has never been on a car. When you factor in his materials cost plus what he loses on the resell, I bet it'll be close to what he'd end up paying retail. This is ok, if he truly wants to have the benefit and enjoyment of doing it himself, but it sounds like his object is to save money.
