Just purchased a 93 R1 that had an engine fire. Getting ready to start fixxing it. I have heard of a few places that sell a fire kit for this and was hoping some people either have used or know anything about them. Any info on these would be great.

I didn't see any posts about engine fires, and figured there would be a spot that did, or there would be links to places that had lists of what would normally need to be replaced in these fires. Hope some people know about this.

Even with a crispy motor the car still rocks . These cars are SWEET!!!

Really, there's no "kit" per se. Engine fires run the gamut from a few crispy wires and hoses to a total loss of the engine bay.

You're gonna have to get in there, find out what's damaged, and replace it. Be prepared for some sticker shock - many of the parts you'll likely be needing aren't cheap.

Take your time in disassembly and try and take pics and document things.

I have not heard of any kits. I also bought my car after an engine fire.
You'll probably have to replace the engine wiring harness. I got this from Ray at Malloy for under $600 along with a lot of other stuff. I looked for a used one to save $$ but never found one in good shape. Plus everyone said that it is not worth putting in a used one because they are so brittle after 10+ years. Wrap it with a heat resistant tape.
While you're replacing the harness, take the time to replace the vac. lines with silicone hose. And do the simplification - either seq. or non-seq.
You'll have to be particularly careful with the solenoids. They will be very brittle and some may not be salvagable. Many of mine were completely melted. Also be ready to replace any damaged sensors that are in the fire area. Any that look crspy or even scorched should be replaced to eliminate potential problems.
Make sure that your UIM and LIM do not look warped or deformed from the heat. I had a LIM gasket leak that was very hard to track down.
As for the fuel syst. (that was probably the source of the fire in the first place), you would be wise to replace all the hoses, even if they are not melted. Check the hard lines for kinking or deformities. The injectors will probably show some melting and may have to be replaced. Any that look like they can be reused should be sent to RCEngineering for cleaning and balancing. You may want to replace your FPR and FPD if that looks like the source of the leakage - which it most likely is.
That is all I can think of right now but just take your time and check everything that could possibly be affected by the fire/heat. It took me awhile to figure out that the ECU was shorted out from all the wires that melted together under the UIM.

Thanks for the posts about this. There is a place based out of Atlanta, GA. that I heard has a basic fire rebuild kit, call Marzmart or something.

I figured replacing the wiring harness would be the best route to take. Bottlefed do you have a website or phone number to order the wiring from Mallory?

Also I was wanted to know if anyone had good pics of there motor with the intake off? Would help alot with this project. Thanks for the posts!

If you're going to get a harness, I would do it first; the prices have been going up quite a bit lately.

I called Mazmart first, and the cost they quoted me for all the parts I needed was over $1K. I ordered from Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda and got them for under $700 shipped.
The phone # for Malloy is 1-888-533-3400 and ask for Ray. He is very helpful and usually has any stock part for an FD on hand. He also gives the best prices. I;m sure everyone here can vouch for his reputation.
