Yeah I'm not trying to question your knowledge or experience I just think you read too much into the statement of taking it out and running it hard every once in a while. Of course you need to make sure your car works before doing that, which is why I mentioned a boost gauge in all caps. Since he mentioned getting a rebuilt engine I made the assumption it was working correctly.

I do agree my statement that driving them mildly buidling carbon engine goes out isn't very clear or accurate with regards to the most common engine failures, but I think the rest of the advice I gave was pretty sound.

Most of the people I know that had stock 7's ended up ruining their engines due to overheating though, not detonation. These are the kind of people that take their care to the dealership for repairs in a lot of cases, and we all know how that goes. Yes a specialty shop could fix that problem if caught in time pretty cheap, but the owners let their engines sit too long.

Also I was just going off the impression that the OP doesn't seem to be much interested in pushing the power/boost which would lead to grenading the engine.

I still say these cars work a lot better when you take them out and run them every once in a while. It is, after all, what they were designed for; 5 minute runs to the 7-11 or 30 minute trips to school isn't what the designers had in mind I don't think.

P.S Lol are you serious you've owned 80 FD's?? Save me a couple for when I get back to the US

I don't know which car I'm getting yetso I most likely wont be there to see the motor being rebuilt, but I will be looking for a FD that has already had the motor rebuilt. Is it out of the line to ask a buyer for a compression test? And yea, My parents thought I was crazy for runnning the **** out my RX8 every once in awhile, but I had to sit and explain to them why I did it
I wouldn't buy the car unless the seller is willing to take it in with you and get a compression test done. It's the only verification you will have that the engine is actually any good. A smart, honest seller would already have the recent printed results to show you.

By the way, I'm sorry if I gave you the impression the way to take care of your car is to weld the doors shut, mash the gas pedal down while screaming "YEEE HAAWW" and jump over deep ditches with it.

Just make yourself a checklist, and really spend a LOT of time in these forums reading up, and you'll be prepared. If you get one, take care of it, theres nothing else like it out there for the price.

I wasnt trying to come off as rude, what you said really wasnt out of line by any means I just wanted to clarify and I get frustrated by some of the stuff I see get posted as facts on this forum. I dont know the exact amount of fds I have owned but I know it is in that ball park. I probalby would have passed the 100 mark by now if the economy didnt **** itself.

Hey no worries we need all the knowledgeable folks we can get keeping us straight. Hopefully people will get lots of opinions and research their issues before coming to a decision. I am just a guy on the internet after all It's been 16 years and people still argue about synthetic vs non synthetic.

My favorite post of all time had to be the one where the guy zip tied a socket wrench to hold on his upside down oil feeds to his turbo, so yeah, theres some scary advice out there.

By the way, I'm not gay or anything but will you marry me and then divorce me so I can get some free FDs. I do windows.
