I just bought my FD 2 months ago in Sacramento, CA.

15k
2k miles on rebuilt motor
2k on rebuilt turbos
Receipts for this done
Almost completely stock (reliabilty mods done : turbo gauge, downpipe, upgraded intake)
perfect interior except for a good bit of wear on drivers seat.

My suggestions:
COMPRESSION TEST!!!!!!
Make sure 5th gear syncro is fixed.
Offer around 16-17k

Overall I received an FD in great running condition for 5k less then what your paying.

You have a golden opportunity to buy an almost new FD. It's getting increasingly hard to find them with anywhere under 50K on the odometer. Take it or someone else will. Just be sure to give her a good home.

Looking at the pics. of the blue car, I'd say it's an LS1 conversion. Check out this link.

Hmmm, yea, that's the same car. Strange that the owner wouldn't mention what is going on in his ad regarding the engine swap. They said "The car engine was check from mazda 4 days ago its in great shape!" Umm yea... Maybe it isn't a legit ad...

ok, $17.5, and I think I may be able to work a couple of things out to maybe get it lower, I think I am good with that price. BUT tell me what you think.

$17.5 might be still too high. 1st of all, I prefer buying one with as much reliability upgrades done to it already. WHY? It may be unmolested bone stock ,but, you're going to need to do these upgrades sooner or later to reinforce and insure a strong running 13 year old FD. Reliability upgrades amount to a lot of money, so why waste your money, instead buy from a seller who has already taken that hit. Of course, you must buy from an owner who maintains the car properly and does not thrash the car. This is why others RECOMMEND getting the compression tested. Good luck. I recommend looking around more, take your time.

Cool

despite going back and fourth 1000 times, I went ahead and bought it. we worked out a couple more things as well. and I got a warranty with it. so when, I mean if I blow the motor (after I pull the mods off) I'll take it into mazda and get a new motor, sadly the turbos aren't covered I could have gotten the factory warranty for it, but I didn't because the only other thing that was of value that it covered was the turbos.

does anybody know in cali how the mazda people take to mods? I mean say something that might be considered a safety mod like a DP but still have the cats?

dp, ast, change all vacuum hoses, radiator, spark plug and wires, fuel filters, air filters, suspension maybe, intake, and maybe the injectors becuz they are known to leak and cause trouble =). Those are the ones i recommended, might missed a few parts here and there, but u get the point. Also, stick with all reliability mods here:

good luck and welcome to the club!

lol 14 of my own cars and being a mechanic for a number of years, trust me FF and all that is at the TOP of my list, ASAP.

But what I was saying is if I blow the motor and take it to Mazda and there's a drop in filter, downpipe, and a couple of other things are they going to flip a lid. or can i say that the motor was never designed to handle those stock conditions and they won't care?

lol what's your point? lol

so I've had the car for a few days now and have to say that thing is pretty clean, I've noticed a couple of things here and there with it, but are all things I would expect. can't wait to get it opened up and do all the fluids and such so I feel a little safer.

Question, today I opened the hood and was showing somebody parts of the car and it appears the intake mani has been taken off but everything looks untouched. I'm going to look into it further and see if I can figure out what was done with it.

Your mods don't really matter, because you should NEVER take the car to a Mazda dealer. By law, a warranty cannot force you to go to a certain mechanic. Find a good rotary guy in your area.

Assuming the compression is good, I think you did pretty good at that price.
