Exclamation Need Major Help!!!!!!

ok I have a 93 rx. new engine with about 7k on it and a used tranny with about 35k. i got some things replaced. the clutch flywheel engine harness plugs and plugs wires. i was at subaru takin a look at an sti when the sales manager was lookin at my car cause im thinking of selling it...anyways. i go test drive this sti and come back to the dealer and see my rx on the side of the road.
the gas light was on and i was thinking that he ran it out of gas so thats why it sounded like ****. but we filled it up with gas finally. i say finally cause we couldnt get the car to turn on and stay on. the engine shakes like a type 10 earthquake! theres no power what so ever. it has a sort of robotic sound to it when its just idlein and when we got it to stay on i tried drin home and the temp shot way up in a few miles. I have an APEXI power fc with the commander, i had the car tuned a bit at the begining on the month but there was a boost leak and i couldnt boost over 5psi! what the hell could of happened. this guy checked the compression and said it wa fine a little better than normal since the engine was so new.
but now the thing idles from 1200 to 700 like at if it were a pulse. i havent drove it since in a few weeks cause i dont want to screw it up more. and when i did drive it i had no power like the transmission went, i couldnt get up to speed to put it in 4th and 3rd gear only got me up to 50 mph at about 4500 rpm! low on money so i need some major help!!!

Paragraphs and actual sentences would make all that a bit easier to read....anyway.

I'm confused, why did the Subaru dealer drive your car???

It sounds like the engine is blown...time to get a compression check.

he was interested in buyin the car.
engine blown huh? on a new engine with barely 7000 miles on it? doesnt make sense. i felt similar with the old engine, the one i replaced when that engine blew but i cant believe that would be the problem on such a new engine.

dealer guy punched it.

low on gas...

fuel pump sucked air cause detenation.

time for rebuild?

i'm still new to this stuff, but thats what it sounds like to me. i don't even boost when i have less then 1/4 tank of gas just because of how touchy our motors are to detenation.

  • you go to a subaru dealership
  • you test drive a Subaru ________ STi **
  • you come back and your car is in a differnt location from where you left it?

who rebuilt your engine?

and for my pet peeve...
**STi....STi what? forester STi? legacy STi? Impreza STi? just saying "STi" is such a broad term.... you might as well call a 350z a Nissan Nismo.... or a Tacoma a Toyota TRD...need i go on? Dodge Mopar

Wait, the dealer took YOUR car for a drive without your permission?

You've got proof of GTA.

Just to be an ***, his location says Austin. I'm thinking Austin, Texas. So long as he's in the U.S., I think the only STI (they changed it from STi to STI in 2006 I believe.) in the U.S. at dealers is the Impreza.

On another note. Running out of gas and having a dealer guy drive your car = no good. You can have detonation at 1 mile after a fresh rebuild if you punch it and run out of gas. YOU should perform the compression test yourself just to make sure.

GTA = Grand Theft Auto I'm thinking. I wouldn't go so far as to say that. Did the dealer guy have your permission to take the car out WHILE you were test driving the STI? If not, then you might be able to get bring legal action against him/her. It may be a given that he/she would have test driven your car eventually, but you might have had the opportunity to fill your tank up before the test drive.

Unless he was personally buying the car (not trading the car in), he had zero right to drive your vehicle. Even with trading it in, I don't think it would be normal for them to "test drive" it. And why would you let him drive it unsupervised???

This story sounds incomplete to me too...what mods do you have on your FD?

In my opinion, he did blow the engine.

To confirm this, take it to a Mazda dealership or a local trustworthy rotary place (ask in the forum for folks from Texas to find a good person near you) and get a compression check done.

Look, word has it that even the reman engines (which I believe you are talking about) aren't the greatest of engines. Unless you can be absolutely certain that every single part of that engine was brand new, then it could have been bad from the beginning. A "new" FD engine is $6,800 from Mazdatrix (please correct me guys/girls if I'm wrong). That's with EVERYTHING new such as rotors, side housings, intermediate housings, the works. I really don't know the cost of Mazda reman engines, but I'm guessing around the same or somewhat lower.

On another note, how deep would you like us to read into it? You ARE asking for help. Even if your engine was fresh-out-the-box-brand-new, it could STILL detonate. Have you checked the compression? A $25 compression tester will immediately let you know if you have a blown engine. Hell, you don't even need to get the compression tester to find that out. Do the poor man's compression test.
