Alright, here's the deal. I dropped my car off running great at the body shop. I get a call a day before its supposed to be picked up. Okay I think to myself its probably just flooded so I emailed the procedures to unflood the car. Well they pull the spark plugs, clean them, and put them back in, Vwalllaaa, it started. The next day my wife goes to pick it up (I'm in Korea till wednesday) and drives it the 9 hours home. I call her after she gets home and she says the car runs worse than before we got the new turbo's and had the engine rebuilt (2k ago). Also there is evidence that someone has driven the car since it has been there. Anyway she says the car died 7 times on the way home, would try to die if she gave it to much gas, and would try to die if she just let the car idle forward in Drive. Also she says it idles really rough.

As of now the spark plugs, and spark plug wires have been checked and are hooked up correctly. What should by checked next? The car is basically stock so I don't think even if they beat on the engine that it would be bad by now. Any advice to get it running well again will be greatly appreciated.

 

I'd start with a compression check, just for the hell of it. Also check the vacuum hose going to the map sensor, from the back of the throttlebody area, to the firewall. You might check the intake path for restrictions or a dirty air filter, body shops often leave a ton of dust and BS under the hood of a car without cleaning it up. IF she drove 9 hours home that almost eliminates a bad tank of gas or contamination in the tank. IN the meantime, you might bump up the idle on the throttlebody until you can do a more indepth evaluation, to keep the car running.

 

Sounds like a good starting place. Anyone else have any advice.

on a side note, could the compression still be low from when it flooded? Anyone think the atf trick might help?

 

if she was driving it 9+ hours home then the engine couldnt of been flooded anymore unless the injectors were WIDE OPEN the entire trip home witch i doubt............................................. ..... compression check.

 

omg, hahaha that is soooo not true! in anycase, i agree with the others when they say compression test it becuase... well you dont wanna know. do the compression test and report back with what it says.

 

Damn, I see more and more of these threads where people drop their 7 off at a shop and find out someone has been joy riding in it. WTF. Isnt there some form of legal action you can take against a shop that does this kind of thing?

 

I can't believe no one has said check the MAP sensor vacuum hose, yet.

 

yeah..but first speak to the owner before you leave you car there..make it very clear to him whats to be done...give him a list of things for you car that need to be cared to..

then if you go back and ***** not working...speak to the owner again....

and I have a feeling that the plug wires aren't secure or were switched around
also, if it flooded you should totally replace the spark plugs
