need help, possible buy

hey guys, i found another 7 and i was wondering if you guys can help me with the price. It's a 1995 sliver on black PEP with 66000 km's. 2 owners but the last one had it from 1997 till now. new clutch, tires, brake rotors and pads. the interior is really good although the bose system is kinda scratch up and the chain is missing that lifts up the cover in the trunk. the paint is in good condition, a couple chips but not bad and the windows are tinted but are peeling slightly and will need to be replaced eventually. over all im really happy with the car, just not the price. they are originally selling the car for $30k canadian and the best i could talk him down to $26k plus my car traded in (87 turbo II). needless to say I'm not to happy with the price, especially when the highest bid for the car was only 16k on ebay. i dont know whether this would help or not, but just for the sake of knowing what would you guys say a car like that is worth?

sidenote: i also noticed that when i took it for a test drive, it drove really good but a couple times the idle would drop and almost stall for a second. the guy said this was natural for FD's but i already caught him in 3 lies for sure and just want to get an honest response about this car before i drop any money on it.

thx for any help you have to offer.

It is not normal for FDs. What other lies have you caught him in? That's not a good sign!

It sounds like the car is in pretty good shape with lowish miles, a 95 should be about 19k from a private seller, 21-22k from a dealer. US $.

yeah, id say way to much. I just payed 12,800 and it has 57,000 miles on original motor, no engine or turbo problems, front and rear body kit, flawless exterior (touch up paint used), apex'i intercooler, custom intake, apex'i PFC with commander, 18 inch rims (some dings on one of the rims), turbo timer, oil pressure gauge, boost gauge, battery relocated to the back, 3 inch exhaust with pre cat removed and new silicone vaccum hoses had been put in. Needs new shocks, rear bushings and new liquids, but thats not so bad. So id say thats a ballpark figure for a 1994 with good miles, anywhere between 11k and 18k. I think hes trying to sucker you in, look at the blue book value AND the edmunds value, then put in DIFFERENT area codes to get a middle ground between expensive and non expensive states, look up the cost of the modifications the car has + the labor - the cost it would take to fix it if it was done poorly and you should have a rough estimate as to what THAT car should cost.... just what i did........

hey guys, heres a little more detail i may have forgotten to put in it. the car is bone stock right now, and it is at a dealership. this is also in canada, so whatever you think is a good price in the states add about 2 grand and that should be it in canada (not really accurate but close enough as far as dealerships are concerned).

as for the engine problem, this only happen happen once or twice. it was fine when just idling (although i did notice it wavered slightly once, but not close to stalling) but this happened when i put it into reverse. not sure if that makes a difference though.

again everything else seemed really good body wise, it also had a new muffler put on. but the rest of the exhaust may have to be replaced in a few years.

as to the lies i caught him in: on ebay they said the weight of the car was 1900 pds instead of 28xx and said the power was 255hp and 217 and the wheels instead of at the drivetrain. also when i was talking price with him i pointed out that the ebay bid was only at 16000 cdn, he said it had gone up to 18000 american (20k cdn). obviously when i went home and checked it didnt budge an inch and was still at 16k cdn when the bid closed.

heres the link to the ebay bid, although the bid is over so im not sure how much longer the link will work:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Mazda-RX-7-Turbo-...QQcmdZViewItem

my offer to him was 20k cdn plus my car, i think that was more then fair. we didnt agree so i left, im hoping that he calls in a couple days willing to negotiate, if not i may bring him this information and show him all that you guys have said. since i like the car i was originally gonna offer to split the difference and go for 23k plus my car but with what im hearing my offer should be more then good enough. i know its rare but his offer is rediculous.

btw, while we're on the topic, do you guys know where i can find the bluebook value and edmunds value for the car? do i just search on google or is it more complicated then that.

once again, thx for the help and i'll keep you guys updated.

Those sound less like lies, and more like just mistakes. I don't the point in lying about a bone stock cars power or weight.

Anyways it still sounds overpriced...

www.kbb.com

$20k cd + TII is probably fair, maybe a tad high, depending on actual condition.

If they won't come down to that, look for another one.

normally i would agree, but the other things i caught him with plus the fact that they claim to have former-mazda rotary experts working at the dealership that know so much about this car. just kinda pisses me off to have someone flaunt their intelligence, then make a simple mistake like that.

as for the kbb.com, thx for the link but they need a zip code to work. as of now, im looking for a canadian version of it.
