Need Help with Idle and Stalling
We've read all the posts and it seems that several things can cause the surging idle problem.
Ours seems different though -- when your are sitting still, put the car into gear with the clutch still in the idle will increase several hundred rpm?
Is this normal, and what is triggering the increase?
Sitting, say at a stop sign, the car will start to move up and down maybe 500 rpm or so, just sitting with the clutch in.
Seems to be exagerated in Reverse, that's where most of the stalls have occured.
Really scared to take it to the Mazda Dealership, based on previous experiences, but it's my son's car and I travel with work -- worried about him stalling at a bad spot.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
clutch switch? fuel filter? dirty injectors? TSP?
Thanks!

First I would change the clutch switch. It will go bad anyway, they all do.
Then if you are DIY minded I would download the workshop manual (link in the sticky thread) and look through the fuel and emissions controls diagnosis section. There is a full idle troubleshooting procedure there. That's probably what the dealer is going to look at anyway.

We have a clutch switch, that we'd bought as a precaution. Is it easy to install? Any tircks?
Hopefully that is the issue, especially since we already have the switch.
Thanks for the input
