Need help with a boost problem. Please

Well I just picked up a 94 a week ago and this is my first 7 so I just need a few ideas where to look or what it might be. I don't know the names or what parts could even cause this to use search yet. Sorry.
The problem is that sometimes I don't have any boost and sometimes I do. It seems to happen more often when I jump on the throttle real hard or when I'm driving mote aggressive. I don't have a boost gauge yet so I don't know if I'm getting any boost or just very little. When this is happening and I let off the throttle I can hear the bov. I bought the car knowing of this problem and the guy said he had it to a shop and they replaced a valve that could be causing it but he doesn't know what valve it was. I don't think it was the bov. Just doesn't look new.
Thanks for any help.

hook a boost gauge up to it and then come back... you should be seeing 10-8-10 boost pattern on the car if it is STOCK.

ok well I finally got the gauge installed and I'm seeing a normal boost patteren when I stepon the gas lightly but if I hammer it in any gear I see nothing. The gauge just stays at 0. I also hear a strange sound when this happens when I let off the gas. Its not the normal bov sound but it kinda sounds like air I guess.
Could it be the bov sticking open?

This *might* be your turbo control actuator (TCA) sticking. I'm not exactly sure what the symtoms are when the TCA sticks, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm way off. You might want to get a vacuum pump ($30, autozone) and check all the actuators. Also check the vacuum hoses, solenoids, and check-valves. It gets complicated pretty quick if you're new, but it's not impossible to learn how it all works. This place should help...
