Need to get ready for the track!

well i just got my car and am planning on attending the track day in nov. i have been quite a few times but never in this car. the calr is all stock with the only mod being the downpipe from m2. i would like to get it ready for the buttonwillow meet.

i have these new parts waiting to go on the car:
samco radiator hoses
stainless brake lines
stainless clutch line
and
hawk pads all around

these are the parts i am planning to get before then:
new rotors
koyo radiator
929 master cylinder
boost gauge and wideband

any suggestions? what do you all think? im sure i will get flamed for posting such a topic but forum boards are not forum boards without it. anyways thanks in advance.

IMO, I would go with an ASP Medium and a good radiator. However, there are others who would say v-mount. You'll have to make your own decision there as there is no clear cut answer.

If you have the money id go with the vmout since ive seen it compaired to a aftermarket smic(smic being slightly larger) in person and vmount heat soaks less...but thats my opinion, i dont wanna start another war. So read up and make a choice! :buttslay:

Really depends on your budget, if you want some help just post what you're willing to spend to be ready for Nov..

I'd worry more about the condition of your radiator and oil coolers at this point than the intercooler.

He does have a Koyo on his list to get.

Mike, the main things to be concerned about on your first outting with the car (IMO) are:

1. Brake pads (good track pads and I would recommend N-Tech)
2. Brake fluid (something like ATE)
3. Coolant temps (so a good coolant flush, proper mix and aftermarket temp gauge)
4. Make sure all your suspension components are in good working order

I would (and do) personally run a heavier synthetic oil on the track like 20w50. As you get more involved and confortable with the car, then you'll want to look at your oil temps, swap bar mounts, etc...

thanks for all the feedback, how much brake fluid do i need to get? and how much fluid if i get the 929?

IMO, unless your Master Cylinder is failing or you have a big brake kit, the 929 MC is going to be a waste of time.

As far as how much brake fluid, 1 liter will be good enough to flush the system. I usually order a few liters at a time so I don't have to constantly order stuff (and save a bit on shipping).

You can get ATE here: http://www.motiveproducts.com/04fluids.html

If you don't have a Power Bleeder, I would suggest one:

I wouldn't be hitting the track if you just got the car. I would give it some time so you can make sure the car doesn't have any issues. As you know, the track exposes weaknesses quickly and an FD has several.

It is imperative that you make sure that all maintenance has been performed and that all of the coolant hoses are in good shape. Key problems to running on the track with the FD are cooling (water AND oil), brake fade with street pads (Hawk pads suck and I'm not using them anymore!), and turbo control/boost problems. I've experienced all three...:)

My advice is to get more seat time and to make sure the car's systems are up to par before hitting the track. Just my 2 cents.

Im right with you. There is always a little demon just waiting to rear its ugly face right at the wrong moment. Just make sure your not doing Mach 3 when that moment comes.

As far as your mods so far, looks like you got most of it under control. For once in the past 2 months theres a noob that actually took the time to read the FAQ/Stickies! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

well there's that and the fact that i do not want to be one of the guys to flip their car like the last time as was at buttonwillow thinking his ride was a racecar because he bought an intake.

i have quite a bit of track experience but i am new to this car and do not want to be overconfident in my driving skills especially with a car that i possibly might not be able to handle. i love it too much to take a chance to crash it! :icon_tup:

If i were you might just take the winter and get used to the car. Make sure you know all you can about it. Then, when spring comes around you will be more than set to go mash the hell out of it on the track! But whatever you choose, good luck, and try to take care of her!
