The only thing I would change is the transmission, ya I would like a good auto, like a 4L60E, a 4 speed O/D unit. I am working with a friend who is a auto trans guy about setting one up. I know most love the stick but a well set up auto is just as nice. The 4L60E is electrically shifted and can be set up as straight auto or like F1, a switch on the steering wheel. Thats the only thing I would change. My FD only has 60k on the body and 8k on the engine so its not bad a all to drive.

the fact that you just can't get a new one and not having dave from kd out here in colorado...other than that...nothing : )

answers to some other issues:

cupholder - solved, a number of years ago someone (i forget at this point) developed and sold a very good cupholder that folds out, sits next to the e-brake, originally from a mercedes

bose sytsem - yes it is old...get an ipod and hook it in!

The POS panels that start to rattle, misc screws that mysteriously appear, and plastic rubber one-way tacks meant to hold the POS panels in place for about 30 sec TOPS. I also have to admit I have the endless fear of "is today the day that my engine will blow."

Still a small price to pay for such an incredible car IMO.

I hear ya.

I dislike the fear of blowing the motor. Bad gauges.

That tight feeling in my stomach when I am about to turn the ignition after not having driven it in a week or more - will everything be ok or will I need $3k for a rebuild?. Of course it does not help that I did this once:

I hate the fact that FD is the most over engineered, badly built, expensive piece of junk to ever come out of japan. But this is also why I like it.

I love this car. fixed and upgraded most of the stuff that you guys were bitchin about. addressed a few personal issues I had with the car and we have come to an understanding. a bonus for me is that the car is just like brand new with very low mileage and Im the 2nd owner.
WHAT I HATE ARE WET ROADS AND I LIVE IN THE SEATTLE AREA!
otherwise everything is kool.

355 days of ownership, 349 days of a blown engine, and 5k invested SO FAR in the rebuild.
and i'm sure i'm not the only one.

what i can't understand is how i still LOVE these cars!

The fact that replacing a motor is a very common thing.
That will be the thing that eventually wears me out.
You can do everything right, and still get F'd.
