Exactly. This is why the RX-7 is "cheap". The RX-7 has very high insurance and upkeep costs. Supra has more managible insurance and very low up keep cost. The savings are simply transfered to the price of the vehicle.

Go buy a nice used Civic that is a couple years old, or maybe an FC, or hell, I had 2 Grand Am GT's..they are a nice car for a young kid and you can find 01-03's for cheap now (and they can be a helluva lot faster than a standard upgraded Civic for the same modification cost...$12k would get you a low 14 sec car).

I had a vauxhall nova for a first car, that developed to a 300bhp 700kg daily driver (Damn fast, but a little tin can and FWD so not great handling)
next was an Audi A3 quattro i had for about 3 months, 4wd, 200bhp and about 1400kgs i think. This was too boring and uninspiring to drive, so i got rid of it for the FD.
I know FDs dont make good DD's, and mine is about to go i think, but i have other cars available should the owrst happen.

Don't destroy a Supra/RX7/VR4 just because you must have a certain car. In addition, $15k at most and you were initially talkign about a decent FD and having a SPARE ENGINE on the side. Come on bud, now you know why us older folks get tired of the "kids" on here.

Even more so if you like rust and a shitty design. I own a 2nd Gen GTS. The theory is great, the design is crap, the exictution was crap the result is crap. They rust fast, are poorly designed, and are made of very very shotty materals and labor.

Anyways, if this is going to be your first car I would also advise against such a fast car. When you're starting out you are GOING to make mistakes, and with a rwd car, especially a powerful one like the FD or supra, it's very easy to lose control. A new driver will overcorrect when they are nervous in a "situation". Overcorrection in a normal car like a civic or a integra will cause understeer (the car will go in a straight line.) Overcorrection in a rwd car will cause you to fishtail, or spin out. Far more dangerous.
Besides, once you get a handle on the car, there are mods for these "normal" cars as well. You can slowly build up your understanding of cars and then you'll be ready for the FD.
I know you arent going to listen to me, I wouldnt if I were in your situation, which I was. My parents bought me an s40 (volvo), when I initially wanted a integra type r (back before I knew the handling differences between fwd and rwd). Anyways. I gather from what you were saying about you having "15k at most" makes me think that 15k is the budget your parents MIGHT give you? Is this incorrect? Anyways, be careful. If you're buying it on your own, or your parents are buying it for you and they dont care what you get, and you are set on the FD, make sure to read up on the reliability of these things.
The car is a dream, as I said in a previous post. Also, if you can afford to keep a spare engine, and have the know how, its prolly a good idea. Just dont blow two engines

Wow.
Not be a hater or anything, but I have a similiar finacially capible family, with a twist. My father is dead set against helping me in anything. Senior year I got $1,000 for my first car, sweat 16, got a job... so forth. Long story short I'm 21 now, working 30 hours a week paying for college, car, apartment, and I wouldnt have it any other way.
If my father was to turn around and offer me an Evo, I would turn him down. Because excepting hand outs simply turn my stomach. I would take that money of yours and either buy the FD with a loan, (owing money teaches disapline) or get a roacking GS-R, FC, S13 ect. Plenty of great cars. Then you take that money your parents would have wasted on you and use it for school, appartment, future problems.. so forth.
