Is my transmission toast? ...burnt clutch smell and slipping
Damn, well i've been noticing a burnt clutch smell but thought it was my turbos cause I know the secondary is toasters strudle. I also now and again felt the car slipping and thought it was the clutch. Never having a hydrolic clutch before I didn't know what to look for.
After being in gear cruising I step on the gas, the rpm skyrocket but the car only slights pulls. I get better pull if I slowly ease on the pedal. The boost gauge jumps as well but only to abut 6lbs.

I can't tell from your post, but are you talking about an automatic? If so it's time for a partial rebuild at least (new bands and clutches, etc). If you're talking about a manual then its clutch, clutch plate, and throwout bearing. Might even throw in a lighter flywheel too, at least get yours resurfaced. Don't forget labor too, about 3-4 hours for a shop to do it.

Manual (I mention a clutch). I took it out again for a drive. From take off at 3k rpm's I let go of the clutch but the car barely moves. It does not buck and the rpms go up 3 times as fast or more as the speedometer. I can't call it slipping because it does not all of a sudden catch and go. It's light i'm towing a boat!

I agree with everyone else. That is exactly what a slipping clutch does. Get a new one in there ASAP because every time you slip it like that, you are heating up the flywheel and pressure plate and possibly doing damage to them.

I thought a slipping clutch was a delayed reaction. Is it different on a hydrolic clutch? On my CRX when the clutch slips, it all of a sudden catches after a few seconds and then goes. On the RX7 it catches right away but it feels like i'm pulling a damn oversized yaught!

yep...time for the act pressure plate and a new stock disk and thrwout bearing.
ive run that setup FOREVER and have had no slipping.
you will toast the flywheel if you take that disk any further...the disk is probably paper thin right now.
if you have access to a garage you can do it yourself over the weekend...its a bitch...a total bitch...but ive done it when i was low on cashola.

Damn that sucks! That's the second race I can't make and now it will be to late to join MazdaComp before my rebuild. Now I have to put the Honda back together.
