My PPF IS damaged, has anybody welded it back together?

Guys i am broke and I have to get my PPF repaired. Now i am pretty sure its cracked but you cant visable see under the car, I have to remove it, my mechanic will be doing that on saturday. Now he says that they can weld it back together and get it cross braided for extra protection from breaking, has anybody else done that? I am planning on doing this and if its not a good idea, does anybody know how much you can get for the oem one? i hear the aftermarket ones are only 10 percent stronger, so i think i will save my self some money and keep the oem one. The other thing i wanted to say is that, do you think i should drive the car around if the PPF is cracked, i notice that when i step on the gas a bit my shifter goes up and down and i hear the grind from the rear.

Yes you can weld it back together. You can try to reinforce it where it cracked also by adding steel around it and welding them to the crack site.

Yes welding has been done ... no it won't work over the long haul if you really race your car hard. Not only are the aftermarket ones stronger (ie with the base metal) but they are thicker in certain areas that crack.

Question What are the symptoms of a broken PPF?

only 10%? I beleive the Amamiya one claims 20%. I have no idea how strong the Mazdaspeed one is but it's like $100 more. I think it's RE Amamiya? Saw it on jt-imports web site.
