I prefer the Jasma one myself but everyone has their own taste. Shouldn't your thread be "mama bear" since baby bear was too soft?

Yoshi - I have the HKS Hiper as well, it was just fine with the stock main cat, but got obnoxious when I went to the high flow cat. Trust me, the cat takes out a LOT of sound, as well as a LOT of flow! I was happy with that sound level. If you ever get a midpipe or highflow cat, you'll see what I'm talking about!

GoRacer - just consulted my wife, who's a teacher. The baby bear was "just right" on all counts . Right temp porridge, comfy bed, etc. .

The Greddy SP has great appeal at this time. Shipping is gonna suck, though, as it's a one piece system - I was wondering if it's a one or two piece. I'm already diggin' the better ground clearance on my Legalis R cat-back.

BTW, here's a pic of my car with the Legalis-R I took a while back and posted on the forum about -

Thanks for all the input, guys! BTW, I'd LOVE to get a DB meter and do some testing of my own - that would be pretty interesting!

Good point.

That makes me think about when I was having the rear pinion diff seal replaced on my old FC, he he had the exhaust off after the RB pre-silencer...I forget why he turned it on, but holy crap it sounded mean with no exhaust. I was like "Fk' yeah! That's how my car needs to sound WITH exhaust! Buwahahahah!"

LOL

....I'm definitely going to get another FC after I sell my FD...I like them more. The Racing Beat dual-exhaust was the sweetest exhaust ever.

If someone wants to gimme a host-site, I'll post a quick little vid of me takin' off in my old FC, and you can get a nice idea of how baddass that exhaust sounds.

:P

No way. I ran this exhaust for like 3 weeks and I couldnt take it anymore. It was the most annoying thing I have ever heard. It wasnt all that loud, but it had the worst drone i have ever heard. Everything in my car vibrated. I mean everything!!

I did a little more research and it looks like the PE TI-R @ 91 dB is with the silencer and the PE TI @ 94 dB is without. All the tests would be on a stock car with the super silencing stock cats. Add a dp & mp and 97 dB sounds about right if not a little low. It's still pretty quiet for an aftermarket canister style exhaust for the RX-7. I am seq + dp + metal cat + GReddy Ti and about half the trucks around here are louder than me. It's kind of funny that my 7 sounds better than their V8's with redneck exhaust mods .

Thanks, Tim Benton for the response. Too bad the exhaust shoot out fizzled but I understand how easy it is to disappear off the face of the planet too.

Dale Clark you're way too picky. I think your only choice is to have SMB or someone make a custom exhaust for you .

Seeing as how we're on the topic of exhausts, what's the RB dual tip sound like? I like the look of that exhaust a lot better then these huge single tip exhausts, it just looks far more clean, IMO. Will the rb still get stupid loud with a dp/mp?

Oh and, I hope it doesn't sound the apexi n1 dual tip because that thing is raspy as ****.

I'll host if you want to send it to me....it'll have to be through AIM or something though because I'm too lazy to set up a guest ftp account...

PM me...

mmm a straight 3" up to the RB would be the quietest loud exhaust youve ever heard. Its a very deep grumble. I promise you its nothing like that ricer exhaust.

Really, I don't get that bad of a drone in my car. The absolute worst dronning(sp?) exhaust I have heard was the Apex-i GT. 6 hour trip to Sevenstock without the silencer= a major headache.

Dale,

I have had my Greddy SP exhaust since 1999 and I love it! I have seen and heard almost every other exhaust at the track and at several RX7 bbqs and still think this exhaust is great. Plus, you're not going to find a better sounding exhaust at idle. When I had the stock cat on it wasn't bad on the highway, but once I put on the HF cat is was a little worse, but not as bad as some others. It might not flow as well as some other models, but I have had this sucker for 7 years and it still looks + performs well. Plus, IMO I think Greddy makes a great product. I can take some pics of how it's held up over the years if you like.

We'll see how loud it is now w/ the single and mangnaflow mid-pipe.

I say pull the trigger and do it.

FWIW with my old setup: Stock motor seq. twins running 13psi w/ a Pettit DP, Bonez HF cat, and greddy SP I laid down 327 in July heat here in Va. I think it was somewhere around 92F that day.

It wasnt so much the cruising, it was the compression braking when I would get off the throttle but let it rev down in gear. I also noticed it to be loudest not at WOT, but right between 2000-3500 doing a gradual accel. It was bad. But who knows, everybodys set up is a little bit different. As long as you have what you like is what matters.

That's what I'm lookin' for . I think the Greddy SP will be the way to go. That's the kind of power I'm looking to make, too.

Thanks!

Yea, it's actually quieter at WOT. How is that possible?
I actually purchased the super drager because my car was really loud(non-sequential, full exhaust)
The 5" tip is really gay IMO, and it drags on everything.
I have the chance to get a new Greddy Evo exhaust straight from Greddy at a discounted price, but I don't know if it will be any better.

when I got my car it originally had an old greddy SP on it - great exhaust - wonderful sound! A rumble at idle and no rasp or drone at all. It was rusty as hell though - must have been on there for ages.

last year I decided to get something new and shiny - the only requirement being lowish dB output. Decided to go with a jasma certified exhaust from kakimoto - the regu-92. It was about on par with the SP at all throttle levels - but it sounded like *** at WOT - a rasp that crescendoed into something that sounded like darth vader hacking up a furball.

However... with the SMB cat in play - transformed! Sounds great at WOT - probably not quite as good as the SP, but still very acceptable - no rasp at all. Interesting how much the factory cat influences the tone. The dB level now is perfect for me - I'm glad I didn't go for the regu-96.

Power-wise, I was expecting significant restriction - but managed just over 326rwhp

I'll see if I can dig up a pic...
