Wow, sorry to hear about your loss man - but above all, I'm glad you and your girlfriend are okay. You look like you poured alot of time and money into that car, and unlike some stupid drivers that almost deserved to have their accident; it really sucks that an old bag like that caused your loss. They really need to get drivers like that off the road.

I hope you get another FD - looking at your car, one can tell you're a true enthusiast, and it would be a huge loss foir the community if you didn't!

By the way, make sure to give your girlfriend best wishes from everyone here at RX7Club....I'll bet that even though it wasn't her fault, she felt terrible just because she happened to be behind the wheel at the time :(

Im sooooo glad no one was seriously hurt. I know the pain of a virtually fatal car accident (rolled my Corrado at 110, fractured spine in 3 spots among other things). Cars can be replaced. People cant. No matter how bad you feel for the loss of the car, it would have been infinitely worse had it been you that was lost. From the description of the accident, you did the only thing you could. Again, really glad no one was seriously hurt, and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Wow - sorry to see this. Your 7 was my favorite.... you definetly have the right attitude however... the car can be replaced - people can't.

Bummer! But glad to hear that your GF will recover. I had a friend who lost a very nice Jag in a similar type of collision--forced off the road into a bridge abutment.

This brings up an important (and probably controversial) point. It is normal reaction to try to avoid an accident or contact with another vehicle. However, given a choice between a fixed object and another vehicle travelling the same direction, hit the other vehicle!!! This is something I learned when I was circle track racing; it will minimize damage, but more importantly, minimize the likelyhood that you will be hurt. Unfortuantely, it will involve another vehicle, persons(s) and will likely be more of a hassle. This is not an intinctive behaviour--you must learn it. But it is safer.

I think after a certain age old people should have to take another driver test.

Glad your woman is alright. Cars are items, she's more important.
Also, probably a good thing the air bag wasn't there.
When my ex wrecked my 300zx TT , the the air bad gave her a concusion and broke her hand. I was totally fine. I'm not a big fan of airbags... Especially for my current girlfriend. Like my ex, she is 5'3" and is right on top of the steering wheel.

Oh fuck -- it was sooo nice too! I will hope that your next FD will be equally as nice or nicer than the deceased one.

If we can't go to the revolution, it will make me really sad. The last 2 years of the revolution have been awesome, and I would hate it to be my fault we can't go again. I love the revolution, plus remember why it is really special for me and you...

this is the exact reason why i've been saying that old people (65+) need to take a yearly exam at the DMV to see if they're still competant and physically capable enough to drive. My grandma almost did this with my mom and two sisters in the car when i was 15, and we've been trying to get her to give up her license ever since because she's dangerous on the road. I'm not saying that every elderly person on the road is a danger, i have a 90+ year old great aunt who still drives herself around every day and is very good behind the wheel.

anyway, enough of my rants on old people, that's a damn shame that this unfortunate accident had to happen. I've never seen a steering wheel bend like that, spoolingrl you're lucky you didn't break your arms/ribs (whichever hit the steering wheel to make it bend like that)...steering wheels are damn strong. congratulations on having such a positive attitude, you must really love your boyfriend, or really love driving his RX-7 (or maybe a little of both). good luck on rebuilding a new 7.

Holy jeez. It rips me up reading about this stuff. The two of you are so understanding of eachother. I wish the two of you the best. I sound like I am repeating what others are saying, but I am incredibly happy to hear that the two of you have survived that accident. Another member was posting this in another thread, but it seems that it applies here too: The FD gives it life to save ours.

Ironically due to the rather smaller size of this car and rather claustrophobic cabin, this car seems to handle damage/accidents really well, and I'm sure the two of you are, to say the least, unfathomably gracious of the cars abilities in that respect. *just don't ruin another one like that! make us another one, and make it even prettier!* ;)

We are rebuilding radkins car. He had to cut the engine out of the bay with a plasma torch but we hope to help him get her running asap. Count on us to help you too. We'll have an Indyclub rebuild party! :)

Gah, airbags are debatable whether or not they help. Get a damn good harness with seats if you want to be safe. You don't see race cars with airbags for a reason. Harness > airbag.

And you also don't see harness's being DOT legal. Most particularly due to the fact that you will get a basil cranial fracture when your body stays in the seat and your head goes forward.

If you want to drive in a street car with race seats and a harness. You'd better go the whole way and drive with a helmet and HANS device.

tell ryan i feel his pain! lol i'm not 100% sure if i'm getting another FD or not. there's one other vehicle i've been thinking about, but who knows. i'll probably have to cut the driver's side of the engine bay off as well. it'll be tight if i don't. i'd be more than happy to have some guys over to help get everything out, but it'd be outside as i have no garage and we're coming up on the cold season.

Oh man that really sucks. Your sig was one of the few that every time I saw it I like damn that's a nice car.

Glad to see your girlfriend is doing well (posting and everything), may she continue to recover!!
Have you talked to your insurance company yet? Just make sure you remember that you paid them for coverage when this kind of thing happens, and make sure that you are treated fairly. If you feel like you arent being treated right, talk to someone about it and make sure you know what rights you have.
