My front brake rotors (track car)- pics
I have the borsche 'big reds' in the front in the track car. The old hats were some 'heavier' metal than aluminum so I had a set remade in aluminum and custom 'floating' rotors made so that I could move to floating/slotted rotors instead of the oem solid mounted crossdrilled oem porsche rotors.
I dont have somthing here that can weight things as minute as these new aluminum hats, but i can tell you that both of the news ones together dont weight as much as just one of the old hats. and the rotors/hardware make it a true 'floating' system, the rotor can expand seperatly from the hat. here are pics: http://www.myrx7.com/images/coleman_rotors_1.jpg http://www.myrx7.com/images/coleman_rotors_2.jpg http://www.myrx7.com/images/coleman_rotors_3.jpg http://www.myrx7.com/images/coleman_rotors_4.jpg http://www.myrx7.com/images/coleman_rotors_5.jpg The hats/rotors were made by coleman racing and I got these done through a friend of mine that I met through track events, here is his contact info if you need somthing similar: TJ Motorsports tjmotorsports@ameritech.net ask for Terry and tell him Damian sent ya :-) |

Do you have a custom caliper mounting bracket or do the Big Reds bolt onto the factory spots? I am intrested in your brake set-up for my own. You have the stock rears correct? or the 99 spec? can't remember. I will go thru him if he can put the whole deal together. calipers and such;) or is there another secret person to go to for the big red calipers?

Damian,
Some history if you are interested: The "Porsche" brakes on your car were originally purchased by me from Ultimate Garages. I eventually sold them to Steven Strickler because I decided to go with M2 AP Racing brakes instead. Steven Strickler eventually sold his car to Foko. And subsequently, he sold the car to you. The rotor and hat combination weighed 21.5 lbs when I got them. How much do the new rotor and hat combination weigh? |

This is the website for Ultimate Garage. The Big Brakes link is, however, dead. |

my car i bought has big red porsche brakes up vront with cross drilled rotors.. only problem is the guy i bought the car from doesnt know what porsche the calipers are fro so i can get replacements and i also dont know what type of rotors to get when these wear out because he bought the car from someone else like this and that person can not be contacted :(

if its the 'big reds' then they are from a 993 turbo porsche, and you can email the contact i made int he first post to get non-oem rotors.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is the benefit of having a floating rotor? Damian, you mentioned that it allows the rotor and hat to expand separately? Does this aid in head dissipation?
|
do they make little bolts with safety wire for the point between the hat and rotor? doesn't look like there is a lot of thread on there...
|
Wow, nice brakes Damian. I've always been a fan of your track car, keep up the good work!
