my FD vs my friend's new m3

hey guys...my friend just bought a new m3...a white one , looks pretty damn nice. Neway, i just got my car and he wants to race me. I've actually started to practice my launches and getting a good feel for it. Where's a good rpm to launch?? Right now i just have a dp, cat, act clutch, and a cb...do i even stand a chance against a new m3?? he's got a stock setup. As far as driving , we've been driving stick for about the same amount of time so we're about equal in skill.....what do u guys think. thanks

He will probably take you (sorry) I hate M3's too (mainly cocky drivers), dont worry a bit more work, and extra sticky tires and you should beat him (not ***** him) just be able to win.

I love E46 M3s. Their drivers are just as cocky as most RX7 owners

You'll probably get walked on pretty good tho. Good launch RPM is about 5500, slip the clutch to the point you feel the tires start to break, as you grab traction let it out.

dont ///M3s have that "easter egg" where you can set it to give you the "perfect launch." i.e. where the system automatically feathers the clutch and stuff for maximum whoopass. isnt there a break in period though?

The other day I raced an M3 and I smoked it by couple of feet and countinued to pull away. The race started around 40-45 and stoped about the 100's .The M3 had a little launch but when I shifted to 3rd I just started to leave him. I have a intake,dp,cb. You might get him off a rolling start.

they do have a perfect launch system, but only on the SMG's.....you hold the brake down, shift into 1st, then hold the revs @ 4k and let off the brake.

actually E46 M3s M.S.R.P. is right around 47K. And the E36s aren't A LOT slower than the new ones. They hit stock times are right inline with our stock FDs, with E46s running low 13s.

Regarding a run with him, I think he will pull you, but you won't get walked. Regardless give him a run and see where you stack up.

Driving stick for a long time doesn't have much to do with being able to race your car well. My girlfriend has been driving standard as long as I have, but I am sure there would be about 1-2 second difference in our drag slip times in the same car.

He was talking about the M3 inline 6 blowing. They have had problems with the motors taking a ****.

My dad's R1 has an intake, downpipe, catback, and PFS computer and he dynoed at 290 to the wheels at 12 psi. At highway speeds be beat a new M3 pretty handily.....do a search in the Kills Section under karken29 if you'd like to find it.....

I've seen a recorded time of 13.1 from a new M3 which is pretty damn impressive. With your mods you should definatly keep pace, but if he's a capable driver you'll more than likely get pulled. I love M3s. I want one as a daily

Try and race from at least a slow (10 mph) roll, you'll never beat launch control. I've beaten these cars on the highway, but just like a Z06, their extra torque means you've gotta be right in the sweet spot of your rev range, or you'll be playing catch up.

That reminds me that i need to practice building boost by right foot braking.

no offense but I'm really tired of this kind threads.

Just freakin' race... If you get smoked no big deal, besides *** whoopings build character.

Edit: sorry I'm a little pissy cuz I had a horrible weekend and it's 7:50 am on a monday.

I'm thinking you need a MP, IC and a computer with at least 12 psi to win with a good strong margin, to really HUMBLE him....that's the goal right?

new M3s are pretty quick

btw I just smacked down a WS6 (with exhaust and a chip) yesterday, those things have about 300 at the wheels....it was close off the line (I launched pretty easy) but then I pulled a couple of cars in third

the guy was like "WTF do you have in that thing?"

I just smiled
