I picked up one of those mp/dp combos on ebay for about $130 to my door. Took it to a muffler shop for the install. Didn't wanna try myself with the fear of breaking off a bolt, plus the car is way too low for undercar driveway work. (Different problem entirely.... being lower than I wanted with Eibachs.) The mp is now sorta rattling against that bar that goes across right under it, at least I assume that's where it's coming from. The shop warned me about it when I picked her up and said they couldn't do anything about it. My question is: Can anything be done about this? I bought some heat wrap, (like a dumbass AFTER it's installed), and I wondered if that would help since it wouldn't be metal clinking on metal anymore. It only happens at idle. Not very loud but really annoying. And one other problem/fix is the rubber pieces that the exhaust hangs from. When I bought the car it was missing the last one by the muffler. I put on an N1 and used one of my friends extra from an FC and it helped a little to keep it still. I wondered if that was also a factor in the mp rattling so I'm gonna get the right one from Autozone. Any help/ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

 

You need to get under your car to see where the rattle is. Maybe post a pic if you can't fix the problem.

Perhaps you can put in some spacers to lower the bar.

 

For $130.. I say you get what you pay for.. anyway.. I say remove the pipe, give it some heat and give it a bit of a bend. That or all of you exhaust hangers are worn causing the system to droop. Replace all of your hangers in that case..

 

Ok, thanks for your input guys! Just wanted some experts to confirm what I thought may fix it. I'm pretty sure the hangers have something to do with it. The muffler tip moves back and forth quite a bit, sorta "in time" with the rattling I hear from the mp. I'll swap out all of them this weekend and throw the wrap on while I'm at it (if I can figure out how to get the damn car high enough). If that doesn't work, I'll give spacers a shot too. Thanks again.

 

Check if they didn't remove the bracket at the rear of the dp. It will touch the top of the dp. That simply unbolts if you need it to go away.

I would still take it to an exhaust shop and have them make some quiet and roadworthy hangers.

 

Thanks, I'll make sure to look for that too. As for taking it to a shop for hangers.... exhaust shops make/sell those rubber things? I thought I'd have to get one from Autozone or dealer or something. Or I'm probably not understanding what you mean....

 

Well I'm not sure either. I just meant that if the stock hangers didn't fit the new exhaust, then you probably ought to have something appropriate made up to hold the new assembly in place. An exhaust shop strikes me as a good place to have that done painlessly.
