my 7's not stock anymore

i just put my first mods on my 93 touring. I bought it bone stock - all original just over a month ago, with 72xxx miles.

We installed a B&M shortshifter, apex intake, 3"dp, 3"mp, and apex exhaust, and apex BOV. I honestly cannot believe the improvement there was. Throttle response was much better and i love hearing the 1st turbo spool up. It took 4 of us about 3 1/2 hours to install everything, i had to file down some metal in my car to get the bolts in the shortshifter, i don't know if anyone else has had this problem but that took me about an hour by itself.

Now i just have to wait for the rest of my order to come! ACT clutch, 9.5lb flywheel, FMIC for stock TT, pulley, koyo radiator, Pettit AST, Power FC w/commander, fuel pump, turbo timer, magnecor wires, and gauges.

Will i need to upgrade my injectors once i get the rest of this stuff? I only plan on turning the boost up a couple of PSI. I plan on going single next year.

Congrats, must be a good feeling!

On that shifter install, that is a common problem when going to install a short shifter. I placed a jack under the car and lifted one side of the motor a bit to turn the tranny a bit to the side, this made that last bolt much easier to get to.

One bit of advice though, not that I am the rotary expert around here, but I would be very careful slapping a bunch of things on the car at one time. And I really hope you are not boosting the car hard and running it to redline with an open exhaust like that, I can almost guarantee that you will pop your motor before those other parts make it to your doorstep.

You can run 12psi with all the bolt ons and stock fuel system, just make sure you get your PFC tuned right for your midpipe! Anything past 12psi and a midpipe I would upgrade the injectors, obviously you will have to upgrade the whole fuel system for a single turbo. Good luck and have fun.

You need to be VERY careful driving your car until you get the PFC. With those mods, you will easily overboost with the stock ecu. You should do one of the following until the PFC is installed:

a) don't drive the car

b) install a manual boost controller and TRY to limit your boost to 10 psi

c) remove the pill in the wastegate hose to TRY to lower your boost

I say TRY because with an open intake and exhaust, you will be lucky if you can control your boost to 10 psi. Spikes at the transition will also be a problem.

yeah, i won't be driving it until i get the rest of the stuff, it's snowy and 20 degrees

I didn't even come close to redline after we installed it all, i think about 5500rpms was the most i went because my *** end kicked out at about 53mph in 2nd when the 2nd turbo came online and that scared me a lil.

Thanks for all the advice and info, i need it all!!!!

well, if you get a wild hair up your *** and want to drive it, do. however, it is important that you keep the boost low. like rynberg said. i drive my car with no ecu, and have for almost a year now. i limit the boost to 9.5 #. however, one mod that i have that i see you do not, is a fuel pump.....you definately need one.....unless i missed it in your post....

If you have the money to get all of that stuff at once then you need to get 1300cc or 1600cc secondary injectors and a high flow fuel pump. With those kind of mods it doesn't take much to lean out and detonate.

i already have the fuel pump, it's just not installed yet, but wasn't quite sure if i would need injectors or not. Sure sounds like i do! Should i go with colder spark plugs too, or is that only for high boost? (i only plan on running 10-12 psi)

what plugs do you have now? usually 9s in the leading and trailing for medium to heavily modded FDs are fine - but if you want to run over 15 psi (which you probably will when single) then go with 10.5s or 11.5s - you'll need atleast 1300cc secondaries if you want to go single or push the stock twins with all the bolt-ons at 13-15 psi. If your staying at 10-12 psi then I wouldn't worry about it.

If you are staying near stock boost, you really don't need higher flowing injectors or fuel pump. Also, you really can't run higher flowing injectors with the stock ecu as it cannot adjust for them. You will run extremely rich once the secondaries kick in.

If you are going to be running over 12 psi, you should definitely consider upgrading to 1300cc injectors and the fuel pump.

Probably would be a good idea to add one performace mod at a time to help you diagnose problems...if you put it all on at once and have a problem you may not know what mod is causing you to have the problem....I say PUT YOUR PFC ON FIRST, then test, then add one more mod, then test, then another then test, and so on...

Good luck with the car dude!

These things are fun!
