My 1/2 Bridge port project thread. (lots of pics)

I bought this car KNOWING it was going to need a rebuild.

After modding it alittle, she finaly just would not start because of coolant entering the rotor housings.

When I unbolted part of the exhaust, coolant streamed out.

Here are some pics of the motor getting pulled. I will update this thread as I go along, and I'll post pics of everything.

Engine without IC

Engine getting close to being pulled.

Me working on the engine

Engine finaly outta the car, looks naked.

Me on the left, and one of my best friends who is always a huge help on the right, sadly my woman took a pic of him and not his face.

Motor out of the car ready for me to start to rip everything off.

I'm still trying to decide if i like leaving it in there. After about 10 times of doing it both ways I still think pulling with the tranny might be easier.

I'm buying a nice digital video camera JUST for this car.

There's going to be more vids than you'll know what to do with.

My girlfriend loves the FD, loves going fast, and loves it when I race, so basicly, everything is going to be on vid.

We have done that job over 100 times and its easier leaving the tranny in the car. Main reason is its a bitch to put it back on the block out of the car.

I agree. There is no reason to pull the tranny with the motor.

I am the friend... UTI was nothing but a disappointment to me, I went through four classes and realised that the school does nothing except set you up to be a dealer tech; they are constantly pushing their manfacturer-specific training programs on you even when you state repeatedly that you have no interest in them, they emphasize classroom training and base alot of their material off old chevy V6 and smallblock V8 motors.... Anyways, i went to the school with the idea that it would give me a lot of the background i needed to pursue a career in the performance (specifically EFI tuning) automotive industry, when in fact, it didn't. Every day I went to work in North Phoenix at a hot rod / custom shop and learned a ton of stuff and got paid. Then I drove half an hour to school and sat in a classroom 4 out of 5 days, paid out the ***, and learned next to nothing. By the time i earned over 100% in the school's most advanced electronics class without trying I was done and went back home to WA. So now I have a dozen perfectly good blue shirts except for the logo of that school, I still wear them everyday to work, but Im trying to find a patch big enough & in the right size to put over it. Anyone have ideas, I'll buy 12 of em lol.

/offtopic

Motor pull seemed easy enough although this is only the second time I ever pulled a motor out of an FD, both times with the tranny still attached. This time around it was about maybe 2 or 3 minutes from when we attached the engine hoist to the chain until the motor was out and clear from the car (well, the second time we attached it... there's a whole 'nother story behind that)

the engine hoist is a cheapy from some auto store. when i put it together, the rear support beams (just pieces of flat mild steel) did not fit on, the beams were about 1/2" too short, we figured to just leave them off. ...

This was a bad idea.

about 1" of engine movement, then about five more pumps, justin noticed the hoist was bending where the vertical post bolts to the frame... luckily we were then able to let the slack off the hoist, use the now-ovalized bottom of the hoist to push it backwards, and lo and behold the rear support's bolt holes to line up - project saved.

Jason what specifically do you mean when you say unbolt the power steering and air conditioning? I took off both lines to the pump - or do you mean to remove the pump?

Heres my girlfriend working on the motor, She took off the intake pipes and the Y pipe all by herself (i had to take a ****)

I think the motor mount might have been broken. lol

Turbos ready to come off

Turbos finaly off

After the turbos came off i notice coolant and oil in the exhaust ports you can see some of the coolant in there.

Thats all there is for tonight, tomorrow hopefully it will be stripped down to the block.

unbolt the AC and PS from the block and zip tie them to the fender rail "leave in the car"...and you can leave the tranny in the car also.
