MORE ?s: Low Power and fuel smell

Just put in a new rebuild. I haven't gotten on it yet (156 miles- never over 4k), but it seems like it doesn't have the low end torque of my last engine. It just seems slow......... I also smell strong fuel when i step on the gas. I guess it's running rich (at least it's not lean- i bet i shoot flames!!!) Anyway...

and suggestions or condolences would be great. Do they get stronger with age? Or am i losing my mind and was my old engine that weak undr 4k. Mods listed below.....

Last thing, my clutch (rps carbon fiber twin disk) seems to be smoking a lot since I put in the new engine. Did it get adjusted wrongly? thanks again guys.

(when i say smoke, i mean i smell it burning.)

Exclamation

Check the fuel evaporative system (starting at page F-129 in the manual).

I'll be doing the same thing this coming weekend. I think my fuel vapor valve is gone south...

Good suggestion? Would that also cause my horrible power loss?

When I first got my new streetported engine installed I thought I lost power too - but it was too much power - come to find out that my primary turbo doesn't work so that was my loss of low-end. I takes around 1000 miles for your engine to settle and break in. should change the oil at 500 miles. Does sound strange - might not be the actual engine but something minor.

is that the fuel pulsation dampner? i have an erradic miss and the other day i drove my car home from work and at every stop i smell gas. . . bad. . . very strong. i got home and my firewall was soaked with gasoline (behind the passenger side of the UIM). i had to let it sit for a couple of days before i could go check it out. when i started it up it didnt idle low (like it was) and no gasoline spray (thats what i was looking for). so i drove it around and it drove fine. i got home and let it idle for a bit while i was looking at my fc commander and out of nowhere it started sputtering and dropping down to like below 100 rpm. i have to admit i was afraid of a fire so i quickly shut it off. i got out and looked. there was nothing. . . no spray. settings in the power fc dont cause sporatic idle with fuel loss. i figured it was mechanical. . . but what is it?

Here's the thing., According to my blitz gauge, I'm boosting perfectly. At full boost (.8) I still feel like a slug...

What about your fuel injectors? Are they perhaps leaking somehow? I would check those and the fuel pulsation dampener. I had a similar problem to you, although not nearly as bad: It ended up being the fuel pulsation dampener. I wouldn't drive your car until you get that fuel leak fixed, whatever it is.

If you don't see fuel pooling or leaking, then it's probably the fuel evaporative system (the part that handles gas vapors). It's handled underneath the car during idle, but inside the engine bay under acceleration.

Just use the manual. It has steps on how to check the difference areas of it. Looks to be only about 3 check places so it shouldn't be too much of a PITA. As I said, I'll be doing it this coming weekend as well.

You will not be pulling full power bc of the new motor. I don't know if it is just a safety or what but mine was sluggish even at WOT until it broke in really good, 4k miles. Maybe it was just my car but I can feel the power now

i know a guy that had the fuel smell in his car too. he said that his gas cap was messed up and he replaced it and everything was gravy. i wish mine was that easy, i pulled off my uim, jumped the fp and grd terminals in the diag. box, turned the key on and watched a 3-4 inch fuel geyser errupt out of my fpd. i figured that out easily enough. hehe
