MORE ?s: Low Power and fuel smell
Just put in a new rebuild. I haven't gotten on it yet (156 miles- never over 4k), but it seems like it doesn't have the low end torque of my last engine. It just seems slow......... I also smell strong fuel when i step on the gas. I guess it's running rich (at least it's not lean- i bet i shoot flames!!!) Anyway...
and suggestions or condolences would be great. Do they get stronger with age? Or am i losing my mind and was my old engine that weak undr 4k. Mods listed below.....
Last thing, my clutch (rps carbon fiber twin disk) seems to be smoking a lot since I put in the new engine. Did it get adjusted wrongly? thanks again guys.
(when i say smoke, i mean i smell it burning.)

When I first got my new streetported engine installed I thought I lost power too - but it was too much power - come to find out that my primary turbo doesn't work so that was my loss of low-end. I takes around 1000 miles for your engine to settle and break in. should change the oil at 500 miles. Does sound strange - might not be the actual engine but something minor.

What about your fuel injectors? Are they perhaps leaking somehow? I would check those and the fuel pulsation dampener. I had a similar problem to you, although not nearly as bad: It ended up being the fuel pulsation dampener. I wouldn't drive your car until you get that fuel leak fixed, whatever it is.

Just use the manual. It has steps on how to check the difference areas of it. Looks to be only about 3 check places so it shouldn't be too much of a PITA. As I said, I'll be doing it this coming weekend as well.

You will not be pulling full power bc of the new motor. I don't know if it is just a safety or what but mine was sluggish even at WOT until it broke in really good, 4k miles. Maybe it was just my car but I can feel the power now

i know a guy that had the fuel smell in his car too. he said that his gas cap was messed up and he replaced it and everything was gravy. i wish mine was that easy, i pulled off my uim, jumped the fp and grd terminals in the diag. box, turned the key on and watched a 3-4 inch fuel geyser errupt out of my fpd. i figured that out easily enough. hehe
