More LED's - 99 spec combo lights

Hey everyone, I was hoping i could get a little help finding decent LED bulbs for my 99 spec combo lights. No time better than now to jump on the LED bandwagon, right? haha

There is a catch. I have Taiwanese knock offs, and they didn't come with the wiring harness. To compensate, I modified my 94 combo light harness to fit. The turn signals fit without much manipulation, so I need a good LED bulb (Orange in color) that will fit the stock 94 front turn signal.

There was no way that I was going to be able to fit the 94 driving light bulb receptical into the 99 combo light. But the 94 side marker (located on the side of the front bumper in front of the wheels) fit with very little manipulation. So i cut those bulb recepticals off and spliced them into the front driving light wiring. So now i need clear or white LED bulbs that will fit these.

Here are the specs for the 94 model, and the bulb types that I think i need are highlighted. (the question mark is because i'm not 100% sure that i have the terminology right for the front side markers that are now my front driving lights)

I can't find these two types of bulbs on the common LED websites, all i'm coming up with are the rear brake and turn signal bulbs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, you'll need a simple 1156 bulb. As you point out, for a 94 turn signal, the bulb is a 3497. The cross-reference for this is an 1156 bulb. Superbrigthleds.com has a pretty good bulb identifier and cross reference list.

They don't offer a great LED for the turn signals though so I would order from superlumination.com:

http://superlumination.com/1156_1157.htm

See the Eagle-Eye Tower (US Patent Pending)
11 Super-Power Wide Angle High Flux LEDS bulbs. They have a forward facing 3 watt high powered LED and 10 side facing LEDs. This will give you plenty of visibility while also filling in around the light. They're a little bit pricey at $19.99 per bulb but they'll be well worth it. I've tried most of the other ones listed and they give off a "ricey" kind of look. Obviously you want to order the amber ones.

For your side markers, you can order these from superbrightleds.com and I got the following ones:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...ge.html%23wled

WLED-xHP5 Wedge Base Bulb $ 5.95 (each)
Options: White WLED-WHP5

Mine are actually the amber ones as that is the color of my lens but your lens is clear? If so, always match the lens color. In any case, the above bulbs work great and are very bright so I think you'll like these.

If you want to order all of the leds from the same source you could try these:

http://www.superlumination.com/194.htm

Introducing the New 5 Led SMT Tower 194 168 W5W 2825
Outfitted with the latest Super High-Flux SMT Leds

Fully Regulated - Non-Polar Proprietary Circuitry. Protected Under (US Patent # 7,345,433)
The Widest, Brightest and Best 194 168 W5W 2825 Ever Made!
Only 10mm diameter x 32mm overall

I haven't personally tried them but I would think they would work equally well to the superbrightleds.com ones.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a ton David.

I'll be ordering everything from Superlumination.

Also, just curious, how do you find out the cross-references for the bulb numbers?

it's buried a bit in the site:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...bulb_cross.htm

You have to look in each section for the bulb numbers that apply to each category. So if you look at the 1156 category, you'll find one of the types this fits are the 3497s. Not easy but it works.
