mods on the way, what order to install?

Greetings,

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and order all the main mods for my car. Here's what I've got coming:

RX-7 Store SS DP with 2nd bung for WB O2
Bonez HF Cat
Racing Beat dual tip CB
Power FC / Commander / Datalogit
Tech Edge DIY Wideband
Intake to be determined

My ideal plan is to install the downpipe first, since it's a safe mod, and provides the WB O2 bung. Next would be the PFC. I figure this would be a fairly risk free time to learn how to use the PFC/Commander/Datalogit/WB. When that's all working well, and hopefully ready to control boost, I'd press on to the HF Cat and CB, and also the intake.

The PFC and Commander will be here this week, but I doubt anything else will make it, so I might be tempted to install the PFC and Commander first, then maybe the DP next weekend.

Does this all sound reasonable, or would you recommend a different approach.

Thanks,

Put in the PFC and commander first. Learn how to use it. Set your boost at around 6psi, and your fuel safely rich. Then do all of the exhaust at once. Doing it steps can be a major pain in the ***. With your PFC at safe initial limits, then you can start moving them upward.

That would actually be a very appealing plan, since I'm going to be unable to resist installing the PFC and commander this weekend anyway

I also wanted to install the exhaust all at once, while I was at it. On one hand, it would be neat to install all the parts one at a time to see what improvements they made. Of course that would mean tuning to each one, which would be too much effort for what it's worth.

When installing all the exhaust, should I just go ahead and install the intake too, while boost and fuel are preset to safe levels?

Man, I can't wait. The car is fast already, and it's going to be awesome with these mods

Thanks,

When it comes down to tuning, nothing is ever "not" worth it. I appluad your effeorts to learn about the pfc,DIY wb 02 and datalogit, but just make sure you take it slow and get it right. Nothing is worse than spending money on those mods, and then blowing an engine because of poor tuning. Don't let this discourage, just look at it as a reminder to put as much effort into tuning as you can.

Wait on the intake until you've got the PFC well tuned for the exhaust. Opening up the intake is where these cars REALLY take off, once you've opened the exhaust.

Cetchup- What I meant by not worth the effort, was that I'd be tuning to one mod, knowing that I'd just be screwing that up with the next one. This is going to consume a large quantity of time and effort, but I'm a computer geek, so it will also be way cool

rynberg- If I have the system tuned well to the exhaust, wouldn't adding the intake make it go lean? From what little I know (HUGE learning curve ahead), wouldn't I want to detune this on the safe side before installing the intake anyway?

Every question I ask gives me 3 more. Think of all the babbling my poor wife will have to endure

Thanks,

I suggested that so you get comfortable tuning the car. Yes, you may want to richen it up a bit before opening the intake. You will also have to change your duty cycles (if you are controlling boost with the PFC) because opening the intake will provide the turbos more air.
