modify/reinforce stock seats for harnesses

im going to be receiving some stock suede 3rd gen seats for my first gen in about a week or two. this is the cheapest route i have to run nice seats that are more accomidating to 4pt/5pt harnesses. what im wanting to do is to add something to the seats to prevent damage from the harnesses. i guess something similar to what after market seats have. maybe some form of plastic of some of material i can sew/glue. just looking to see if anyone has done something like this before. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

FWIW, I don't think I've ever seen pics of the suede seats with a tear in them, or a severely worn spot, which says to me they're fairly durable as is.

ive considered that. im just worried after a couple months of use with harnesses theyll start to wear holes in the headrest and on the sides. im just going to try to find some kind of material i can use to help beef those areas up a little.

I have done 10 years of auto-x, old SCCA solo trials and some DE time with stock R2 model seat with 5-pt harness and w/o wear and tear. I do install a FIA approved seat for true track time.

im not familiar with the differecne between the seats. what are the R2 seats, leather or suede? hmm, maybe i dont need to modify them. i was thinking about trying to figure out some materials similar to what other seat manufacturers use and getting some and cutting and fitting it to the areas of concern. i just had no idea what to use.

Do you intend on using the harness daily? If not, I doubt the occasional track/autox day will wear them, and you could put a small towl or something inside the cut-out just to pad it further.
