Modifications with AVC-R!?!?!?!?
Some Rx7 guy said I can run more mods via: Single Turbo, Midpipe, Intercooler.. etc.. if I just purchased a Apex'i AVC-R.. and that I didn't need a EMS/ECU to run these modifications.. I know I can run a Midpipe if I maintain the boost at 10psi correct? but can I get the whole shabang without a EMS or ECU and just the AVC-R???
Mods = downpipe, exhaust, stock cat, intake kit@stock psi levels..
Feedback is greatly appreciated.. and any corrections to whatever mistakes I may have made knowingly or unknowingly is accepted thanks in advance!

I guess in theory if you kept the boost low. But, with a single, it'll be asleep at 10psi.
If you're spending ALL that money (single, intercooler, exhaust, etc.) you're just nuts if you won't buy an ECU. Can you make a single run with the stock ECU? Maybe. But it will likely not run that well and make the best power it could if the fuel and spark was optimized for the total setup.
You can now get a PowerFC for around $800 with commander. There's just no good reason not to get it. The car will run a LOT better than the stock ECU, make more power, and have the potential to do whatever you want with the car.

In my opinion going to a stand alone ECU is the best thing you could ever do, Eventually you will need it, Ive seen AVC-R and its all a percentage of fuel being added in 500rpm increments. You tell me how good you think you can get a turbo car tuned like that.
First off, are we talking about the AVC-R (the boost controller) or the Super-AFC (the fuel controller)? I'm assuming he's talking about using the AVC-R to limit boost to a stock-ECU friendly amount.
The Super-AFC does NOT work well on the FD. It's best use would be to fine-tune the fuel map on a chipped ECU, but at that point you've spent the same amount to buy a PowerFC, which is a FAR superior setup.

Yeah, there is NO point in upgrading to a single turbo and keeping the stock ECU. It will be slow, and there will be problems since you will be removing a lot of solenoids that the stock ECU looks for.
