modding order help please

hey guys, my 93 R1 right now is bone stock and i have a hks downpipe, hks carbon ti, and an apexi power intake on order. i was wondering if it would it be ok for me to get a high flow cat next or should i wait and save up for a power fc before any more mods? Right now all i know is i am gonna need a power fc sooner or later for future modding. just wanted to know if i can get a high flow cat before it and not mess anything up like getting boost creaps or whatever its called.

thanks,
Craig

The normal rule is 3 flow mods before some type of ecu. Personally, I'd stick to two, but definitely not the dp, hi-flow, and cb. Just put on the three you have now, watch the boost to make sure it stays at 10psi (you DO have a boost gauge, right?) and then get an ECU.

Search too, this has been asked a thousand times.

3-mod rule is a myth. From reading wade's site, and from personal experience.

My car used to have M2 CAI, M2 DP, hi-flo cat, and apexi n1 duals on a stock ECU. It eventually died, but it was because of coolant O-Ring failure.

Anyway before even doing those take care of the reliability modifications first (radiator, AST/AST elimination, etc). You are on the right track just make sure you have someone that can tune your Power FC properly.

I think the three mod rule is out there as a good general guideline for anyone, especially n00bs, modifying RX-7's. its basically better safe than sorry, yes some of you might get away with more than 3 flo mods and no pop but a few havent been so lucky so i think thats why it's in place. myth probably but good guideline definately.
Buzzer: if you dont have a boost guage already that should be your next step, then i would personally say power fc or some computer. also in the mean time you might want to consider an AST and larger rad too.
good luck

Exactly. Better safe than sorry. Some people have run a midpipe on the stock ECU, but that doesn't mean its a good idea. Some people jab sharp objects into their eyes for the rush, but that doesn't mean its a good idea.

Most rx-7s can handle 3 mods on the stock ECU before things start getting lean, so thats just a general guideline.

He said boost creaps. hehe.

Better idea to go Power FC, then highflow. The stock main cat is a bottleneck as far as backpressure and a safety net as far as apex seal health.
